Lucid Motors has once again shattered expectations by setting a new world record for electric vehicle range. The company first captured attention when its Air GT model surpassed the 500-mile mark, achieving over 513 miles on a single charge. Now, the spotlight is on the Air Grand Touring model, which has been officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for its remarkable performance.
Despite being equipped with a slightly smaller 112 kWh battery, the Air Grand Touring’s ultra-efficient drivetrain propelled it nearly 750 miles on a single charge. This incredible distance was achieved on a route from St. Moritz, Switzerland, to Munich, Germany. The elevation drop of about 4,200 feet between these locations contributed to the efficiency, though not enough to undermine the impressive 749-mile (1,205-kilometer) range.
Lucid is renowned for engineering some of the lightest and most energy-efficient EV powertrains available, boasting a record 5 miles per kWh consumption. The company’s latest models, including the Gravity SUV, are equipped with NACS charging connectors, facilitating direct use of Tesla’s 48A Wall Connector. The Air Grand Touring, the brand’s longest-range vehicle, has already been certified for 512 miles under the stringent EPA testing cycle.
However, under ideal conditions, the Air Grand Touring far exceeds expectations, achieving 6.68 miles per kWh with its 112 kWh battery while slightly benefiting from a downhill trajectory. It would be interesting to see the results of a return trip to evaluate the impact on overall range.
With this achievement, Lucid has surpassed the previous Guinness world record by nearly 100 miles, reinforcing its reputation for producing premium, well-engineered electric vehicles, accompanied by a price that reflects their cutting-edge technology.
