Intel welcomes its new leader, Lip-Bu Tan, a seasoned expert in the semiconductor field, to spearhead the company as CEO. Starting on March 18, Tan will step into this pivotal role, succeeding Interim Co-CEOs David Zinsner and Michelle Johnston Holthaus. Tan, who is no stranger to Intel, is set to rejoin the board of directors next year.
While Zinsner will continue his role as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Johnston Holthaus will maintain her position as CEO of Intel Products. Meanwhile, Frank D. Yeary will revert to being the Independent Chair of the Board once Tan assumes his new position as CEO.
According to Yeary, Tan is admired for his leadership, technology acumen, and a knack for fostering innovation within the industry. Yeary praised Tan for his customer-focused approach and success in achieving notable shareholder value. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to accelerate Intel’s transformation and seize growth opportunities.
Tan expressed his enthusiasm, stating it is an honor to lead Intel, a company he deeply respects. He plans to leverage Intel’s vast computing platform and robust manufacturing capabilities to better serve customers and enhance shareholder value. His vision for the company builds on ongoing efforts to strengthen Intel’s technological roadmap.
Yeary also extended gratitude to Dave and Michelle, recognizing their steady leadership as interim co-CEOs during a transitional period for the company. Their dedication has been vital in maintaining stability and driving Intel’s strategic goals, including advancing product leadership and rebuilding investor trust.
Lip-Bu Tan brings with him over two decades of experience in semiconductors and software. An impactful journey at Cadence Design Systems saw him double its revenue and achieve a remarkable stock price appreciation. Tan’s background includes roles as a founding managing partner of Walden Catalyst Ventures and chairman positions at influential firms. His academic journey boasts a Bachelor of Science in physics from Nanyang Technological University, a Master of Science in nuclear engineering from MIT, and an MBA from the University of San Francisco. Among his accolades is the prestigious Robert N. Noyce Award from the Semiconductor Industry Association, recognizing his significant contributions to the industry.
With Tan at the helm, Intel is poised for a future marked by strategic innovation and growth.
