LG is expanding its UltraGear lineup with a fresh 45-inch OLED gaming monitor, the UltraGear Evo 45GX950B, and it’s shaping up to be a serious option for players who want an ultra-wide, high-end display with strong HDR performance.
In everyday SDR use, the 45GX950B reaches up to 275 nits of brightness, which should be suitable for typical indoor gaming and desktop setups. Where it really aims to impress is HDR: LG says the monitor can hit up to 1,300 nits in small highlight areas, helping bright effects and specular highlights pop in supported games and HDR videos.
Another key addition is LG’s built-in processor designed to upscale content from any connected device to the monitor’s 5K2K resolution. That’s especially useful if you connect multiple sources or run content that doesn’t naturally match the panel’s native resolution, since upscaling can help reduce softness and make fine details look cleaner on a large 45-inch screen.
That said, the overall package appears very similar to the previous 45GX950A, with one notable downgrade: the speakers. The older model included 10 W speakers, while the new 45GX950B drops that to 7 W, which may matter if you rely on built-in audio instead of headphones or external speakers.
Pricing is also a big part of the story. In Japan, LG set the official MSRP at JPY 329,800 (around $2,099). However, the monitor is already being sold at a steep 21% discount, bringing the price down to JPY 259,800 (around $1,653). Pre-orders are scheduled to begin shipping on June 11, which suggests a wider May launch in other regions may not be happening right away.
For gamers shopping for a 45-inch OLED ultra-wide monitor, the UltraGear Evo 45GX950B looks like a refinement-focused release: strong HDR peak highlights, smart upscaling for 5K2K output, and pricing that’s more compelling when discounted—though with a small trade-off in speaker power compared to its predecessor.
