LG Unveils World’s First 24.5-Inch 720Hz OLED Panel for Esports Gaming
LG Display has introduced a major breakthrough for competitive gaming: the world’s first 24.5-inch OLED panel with a blazing-fast 720Hz refresh rate. Designed specifically for esports monitors, the new panel targets players who demand extreme speed, ultra-low latency, and crystal-clear motion in fast-paced games.
The 24.5-inch size is especially important for esports. Many professional and competitive players prefer monitors in the 24-inch class because the entire screen can be viewed quickly without excessive eye movement. LG’s new 24.5-inch OLED panel keeps that familiar tournament-friendly format while pushing refresh rate performance to a new level.
The panel runs at Full HD resolution, 1920 x 1080, and reaches up to 720Hz. That means the display can refresh up to 720 times per second, delivering exceptionally smooth motion when paired with powerful gaming hardware. For competitive titles such as first-person shooters, racing games, and other reaction-based esports games, this can help improve visual clarity during rapid movement.
LG says the panel also offers an extremely fast 0.02ms response time. This is one of OLED’s biggest advantages over traditional LCD technology. Because OLED pixels can turn on and off independently, they can respond far faster than most backlit displays. The result is reduced motion blur, less ghosting, sharper moving objects, and a cleaner image during high-speed gameplay.
To make 720Hz possible at Full HD resolution, LG Display developed a proprietary driving algorithm. According to the company, this technology helps maintain stable operation at such a high refresh rate, combining panel design and display-driving improvements into one integrated solution.
The benefits are especially noticeable in competitive gaming situations. In an FPS game, for example, a player may be able to see fast weapon movements, muzzle flashes, or enemy motion more clearly. In racing games, the added smoothness can help keep high-speed vehicles and track details easier to follow. For esports players, where every millisecond matters, smoother motion and faster response can make gameplay feel more immediate and precise.
Compared with LCD monitors, OLED panels also have major image quality advantages. LCDs rely on a backlight, while OLED pixels emit their own light. This allows OLED screens to produce true blacks, strong contrast, detailed highlights, and minimal haloing. It also gives the image a more vivid and immersive appearance, which is useful not only for esports but also for general gaming and entertainment.
LG’s new 720Hz OLED panel is already being adopted by monitor manufacturers. ASUS is among the first brands to use it in a gaming display, introducing the ROG Swift OLED PG259QWS Ace. This monitor uses a 24.5-inch TrueBlack glossy Tandem WOLED panel, supports a 720Hz refresh rate, offers a 0.02ms response time, and reaches up to 1700 nits of brightness.
The ROG Swift OLED PG259QWS Ace has also been selected as the official esports monitor for the PGL CS2 Major Singapore 2026, one of the biggest Counter-Strike 2 tournaments. That selection highlights how quickly ultra-high-refresh OLED displays are moving into professional esports.
The launch comes as monitor makers continue to push refresh rates higher across the gaming display market. Recent advances in graphics cards, frame generation, upscaling technologies, and performance modes have made it easier for players to reach extremely high frame rates in competitive games. As a result, demand is growing for displays that can keep up.
LG Display is positioning this 24.5-inch 720Hz OLED panel as part of a broader strategy to expand OLED technology in esports monitors. The company already offers gaming display panels across multiple size categories, from compact esports-focused screens to larger immersive gaming displays. Some products also feature Dynamic Frequency and Resolution technology, which allows displays to adjust between different performance modes depending on the use case.
With its 720Hz refresh rate, 0.02ms response time, compact esports-friendly size, and OLED image quality, LG’s latest panel could mark a turning point for competitive gaming monitors. For players who prioritize speed, responsiveness, and visual clarity, the next generation of OLED esports displays is shaping up to be significantly faster than anything currently available in the mainstream market.
