The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake download size has reportedly been confirmed, and it looks like Link’s return to Hyrule will take up significantly more storage than any previous mainline Zelda release on Nintendo’s newest system.
According to details shown on a Japanese Nintendo eShop card, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake will require 27 GB of free space. That matches the estimated file size previously listed on Nintendo’s digital store pages, giving fans a clearer idea of how much room they will need before the game arrives.
While 27 GB is not the biggest game size on the platform, it is still a major jump for one of Nintendo’s most beloved classics. The original Nintendo 64 version of Ocarina of Time fit on a 32 MB cartridge, making the remake roughly 844 times larger. That huge difference reflects just how much has changed, from upgraded visuals and new cinematics to additional content designed for modern players.
The remake is also larger than several recent Zelda adventures. The upgraded version of Breath of the Wild is listed at around 24.1 GB, while Tears of the Kingdom sits a little above 20 GB. That is especially interesting because both of those games are large open-world experiences, while Ocarina of Time is traditionally a more compact adventure.
One Zelda-related title remains bigger: Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, which reportedly requires about 43.5 GB. Still, for a mainline Zelda remake, 27 GB is a notable size and suggests that Nintendo is treating this release as far more than a simple visual refresh.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is expected to bring major technical improvements to the classic adventure. Early analysis suggests the game could target a native 1080p resolution while docked, with gameplay running at 60 frames per second. If accurate, that would make the remake feel much smoother and sharper than the original, while still preserving the structure and atmosphere that made the 1998 release legendary.
This is not expected to be a strict one-to-one remake. Hyrule will likely remain smaller than the massive worlds seen in newer Zelda games, but players can expect meaningful additions. Reports point to new side quests and a new area called the Hall of Fallen Heroes, where Link can revisit fallen bosses and take on memorable enemies again.
The larger file size may also be partly due to newly added cutscenes and voice-over work. These additions could give the story a more cinematic feel while helping modernize some of the most iconic moments in the game.
For players planning to buy the digital version, clearing storage space ahead of time would be a smart move. Those using the console’s internal storage or a MicroSD Express card should make sure at least 27 GB is available before launch. Nintendo may also offer a pre-load period, potentially allowing buyers to download the game several days before release.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is currently expected to launch on November 5. With improved graphics, smoother performance, new content, and a much larger download size, the remake is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Nintendo releases of the year.
