Last Chance to Convert Google Stadia Controllers to Bluetooth Mode

The time is ticking for those still holding onto Google Stadia Controllers that haven’t been switched to Bluetooth mode. Google is preparing to dismantle its Bluetooth conversion utility soon, so now’s the time to make the transition if you haven’t done so already.

With the Stadia gaming service officially closed since January 2023, the controllers are what remains for gamers and tech enthusiasts. Initially designed to operate via Wi-Fi and wired connections, these controllers could adapt to Bluetooth thanks to a software utility that Google released after the service’s closure. While it deactivated the Wi-Fi capability, Bluetooth functionality allowed users to continue enjoying the controllers across various platforms.

Originally, Google planned to remove this Bluetooth conversion tool by the end of 2023 but graciously extended the deadline by another year. As of now, Google maintains its stance on shutting down the service by December 31, 2024.

In the meantime, third-party solutions are available on platforms like GitHub. One such tool is StadiaController by GaryOderNichts, which utilizes WebUSB for conversion. However, the future viability of these third-party tools remains uncertain as they rely on web interfaces instead of traditional firmware updates. This uncertainty underscores the urgency for current users to update their devices to Bluetooth while they still have the opportunity.

If you are still hanging onto a Stadia Controller, act soon to ensure its continued use in the ever-evolving gaming landscape.
