Google Extends Deadline for Stadia Controller Bluetooth Activation

Google has extended the deadline for owners of the Stadia Controller to switch from Wi-Fi to Bluetooth mode. While the Stadia gaming platform was shut down earlier in 2023, Google provided a way for users to convert their controllers for continued use with other devices via Bluetooth. Initially, Google was set to disable this conversion tool at the end of 2023, but they have now pushed the deadline further to December 31, 2025.

This extension means that users have an additional year to make the switch, allowing them to keep using their controllers wirelessly without turning them into e-waste. However, this change comes with certain limitations. Once the conversion from Wi-Fi to Bluetooth is made, Wi-Fi capabilities are permanently disabled. While USB mode remains functional, certain features like using headphones through the controller’s audio jack won’t work in Bluetooth mode due to a lack of audio passthrough support. However, when connected via USB, the audio jack is fully operational on compatible platforms such as Windows or Android.

Despite the Stadia Controller no longer being available for purchase, this extension offers existing users more time to make their devices compatible with current gaming setups, retaining their usefulness in a world post-Stadia.
