Keychron’s V6 Ultra HE Brings Magnetic and Mechanical Switches Together in One Keyboard

Keychron V6 Ultra HE brings magnetic and mechanical switches together in one full-size keyboard

Keychron is preparing to launch the V6 Ultra HE, a full-size keyboard designed for users who want both gaming-focused magnetic switch performance and the familiar feel of traditional mechanical switches. The keyboard has appeared on Keychron’s website ahead of a Kickstarter campaign scheduled for July 22.

The biggest highlight of the Keychron V6 Ultra HE is its new Nova Socket system. This hybrid PCB design allows the keyboard to support both standard mechanical switches and TMR magnetic switches at the same time. Instead of choosing one switch technology for the entire keyboard, users can mix and match switches across different keys depending on how they use them.

For gamers, that means magnetic switches can be placed under important movement keys such as WASD, where fast response, rapid reset, and adjustable actuation can make a noticeable difference. Meanwhile, regular mechanical switches can be used across the rest of the keyboard for a more traditional typing experience. This gives the V6 Ultra HE a flexible setup that could appeal to both competitive players and everyday keyboard enthusiasts.

The keyboard comes pre-installed with Keychron Ultra Fast Lime magnetic switches and Apex mechanical switches. The magnetic switches use tunnel magnetoresistance sensing technology, also known as TMR. This enables features that standard mechanical switches cannot offer, including adjustable actuation points, rapid trigger, and SOCD behavior configuration.

Adjustable actuation lets users decide how far a key must be pressed before it activates. Rapid trigger allows a key to reset almost instantly when released, which can be useful in fast-paced games. SOCD configuration helps control how the keyboard handles opposing directional inputs, a feature often discussed among competitive gamers.

Keychron is also using a QMK-powered open-source web launcher for customization. Through the browser-based utility, users can adjust keymaps, create macros, and configure magnetic switch behavior without installing a dedicated desktop app. This should make the keyboard easier to manage across different systems.

Connectivity is another major selling point. The V6 Ultra HE supports wired USB, 2.4GHz wireless, and Bluetooth 5.3. In wired mode, the keyboard delivers an 8,000Hz polling rate, which is aimed at users who want extremely fast input response. The 2.4GHz wireless mode is designed for lower-latency wireless use, while Bluetooth 5.3 allows pairing with multiple devices.

The keyboard also includes support for both macOS and Windows layouts, making it suitable for users who switch between operating systems. Keychron has long focused on cross-platform compatibility, and the V6 Ultra HE continues that approach.

For typing feel and sound, the V6 Ultra HE uses a gasket-mounted structure with multiple layers of sound-dampening material. This design should provide a softer, more cushioned typing experience compared with stiffer tray-mounted keyboards. It also comes with double-shot PBT keycaps in Keychron’s OSA profile, offering a durable surface and a sculpted shape designed for comfortable typing.

Another practical feature is the detachable battery module. Keychron says this makes the battery user-replaceable over time, which could help extend the keyboard’s lifespan. It also aligns with upcoming European Union rules focused on making batteries in consumer electronics easier for users to service or replace.

Keychron has not yet announced the final retail price for the V6 Ultra HE. However, the company is accepting $5 deposits ahead of the Kickstarter launch. Early supporters are expected to receive access to a discounted early-bird price shown as “$1?9,” suggesting the final early pricing will likely fall somewhere in the $100 range.

With its full-size layout, hybrid switch support, 8,000Hz wired polling rate, wireless connectivity, gasket-mounted build, and user-replaceable battery, the Keychron V6 Ultra HE looks like one of the company’s most versatile keyboard releases yet. For users who want the precision of magnetic switches without giving up the feel of mechanical keys, this upcoming model could be an especially interesting option.
