Judas, the long-awaited sci-fi shooter from BioShock creator Ken Levine, may still be much further away than many fans expected.
The game has been surrounded by mystery for years. Early discussion around Levine’s next major project dates back to 2016, but Judas was not officially revealed until The Game Awards 2022. Since then, updates have been limited, leaving many players wondering when they will finally get their hands on it.
Developed by Ghost Story Games, Judas is a narrative-focused first-person shooter set aboard a massive spaceship that appears to be falling apart. Players step into the role of Judas, a mysterious woman caught in a dangerous and unstable world where alliances, enemies, and choices are expected to play a major role.
The game has drawn attention because of its connection to Levine, best known for shaping the BioShock series. Like his past work, Judas appears to focus heavily on story, player agency, and a world that reacts to decisions. The experience is expected to explore shifting relationships, moral consequences, and interactive storytelling in a way that could make each playthrough feel different.
However, fans may need to wait quite a while longer. According to a recent financial update from Take-Two Interactive, Judas is now listed for release during the company’s 2028/2029 fiscal year. That means the game may not arrive until late 2028 or possibly early 2029.
This is a notable shift from earlier expectations, as previous reports had suggested Judas could potentially launch around 2025. The new release window suggests the project is still deep in development, despite having been publicly known for several years.
Unsurprisingly, the news has led to frustration among some players. Many feel that major games are being announced too early, often years before they are ready to launch. In the case of Judas, the long wait feels even more noticeable because BioShock Infinite was released more than a decade ago, and fans have been eager to see Levine’s next big narrative-driven project ever since.
Still, the extended development time could also mean Ghost Story Games is aiming for something ambitious. Judas appears to be built around complex systems, branching interactions, and player-driven consequences, all of which can require significant development time to execute properly.
For now, Judas remains one of the most intriguing upcoming first-person shooters, especially for players who enjoy story-rich sci-fi games with meaningful choices. While the new release window may disappoint fans hoping to play it sooner, the project continues to generate curiosity because of its unique setting, BioShock-inspired DNA, and promise of a reactive world shaped by the player.
Judas is planned for Windows PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
