Taiwan’s 2026 Innovation Technology Expo is set to spotlight next-generation breakthroughs in AI data center infrastructure, with a strong focus on faster data transmission and more efficient cooling technologies.
The event will take place from September 17 to 19 at Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1, bringing together advanced technology developers, industry leaders, and innovation-focused organizations. According to Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs Industrial Development Administration, the rapid growth of artificial intelligence is putting new pressure on data centers, which now require higher-speed connectivity and improved thermal management to support increasingly powerful computing systems.
Among the major technologies expected to be showcased are government-backed innovations developed by Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute, better known as ITRI. Two key solutions will be highlighted: a silicon photonics optical engine and a 3D aluminum microchannel thermosyphon cooler.
The silicon photonics optical engine is designed to support high-speed data transmission, a critical requirement for modern AI data centers. As AI workloads continue to expand, traditional data transfer methods can become a bottleneck. Silicon photonics technology helps address this challenge by using light-based transmission to move large volumes of data more quickly and efficiently between servers, processors, and networking equipment.
Cooling is another major concern for AI infrastructure. Advanced processors and AI accelerators generate significant heat, especially when running intensive machine learning and generative AI tasks. ITRI’s 3D aluminum microchannel thermosyphon cooler is aimed at improving heat dissipation in dense computing environments. By enhancing cooling efficiency, the technology could help data centers maintain stable performance while reducing energy consumption.
The showcase reflects Taiwan’s growing role in the global AI hardware and semiconductor ecosystem. As demand rises for AI servers, high-performance computing, and energy-efficient data centers, technologies such as silicon photonics and advanced thermal solutions are becoming increasingly important.
The 2026 Innovation Technology Expo is expected to provide a closer look at how Taiwan is preparing for the next stage of AI infrastructure development. With faster optical communication and smarter cooling systems, the featured technologies could play an important part in shaping the future of AI data centers.
