Is Sony Gearing Up for a New PS Store Rewards Program to Replace PlayStation Stars?

A newly spotted PlayStation Store listing is sparking fresh speculation that Sony could be preparing a replacement for the PlayStation Stars loyalty program. For many PS5 and PS4 players, it’s a welcome hint—especially since earning points toward games is no longer on the table, leaving loyal fans feeling like their time and spending aren’t being rewarded the way they used to be.

Sony confirmed in May 2025 that PlayStation Stars was coming to an end, while also suggesting a revamped program could arrive later. PlayStation Stars originally let players earn points through campaigns and activities, then redeem those points on select digital games or use them toward virtual collectibles. Now, with sign-ups closed and point-earning effectively shut down, players have been waiting for whatever comes next.

That’s where the mysterious new PS Store entry comes in. The listing, titled “Wallet Credits,” has been circulating among players, and it appears to be published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It can even be wishlisted, although there’s no confirmed release date yet. The name alone has players guessing it could be connected to a new rewards system—or at least some new way to manage PlayStation Store credit.

One popular theory is that Wallet Credits could be a foundation for a new loyalty program that fills the gap left by PlayStation Stars. While Stars is expected to remain active until November 2026, the fact that players can’t join or build points anymore has created a noticeable void—especially for gamers who want a points-and-perks system comparable to what Xbox owners can get through Microsoft’s ecosystem. Right now, the closest PlayStation equivalent is limited to specific cardholder perks through a PlayStation-branded credit card, which doesn’t help the broader player base.

There’s also another feature PlayStation fans have wanted for years: gifting. Unlike competing platforms, PlayStation still doesn’t offer an easy way to gift digital PS5 games or subscriptions. That has made birthdays, holidays, and simple “you should play this” moments more difficult than they need to be. Because the Wallet Credits name sounds like something transferable, some players are hopeful it could finally introduce a way to send store credit to friends and family—even if full gifting of games isn’t part of the first rollout.

Of course, it may be less dramatic than a new rewards program. Some players have pointed out that Sony has used the term “Wallet Credit” in promotional emails—such as messages offering $5 in free PlayStation Store credit. In that context, Wallet Credits might simply be a new internal tool or a storefront component tied to promotions, redemptions, or account credit management rather than a full-blown PlayStation Stars replacement.

Still, the timing is hard to ignore. The PlayStation Store remains hugely popular, but it also attracts ongoing criticism. Players regularly complain about low-quality shovelware flooding search results, even after Sony removed a large number of titles. Pricing is another sore spot, especially in regions where games can cost far more than expected. Some users have even reported odd inconsistencies with discounts—where people in the same household can see different sale prices.

Sony has made some efforts to improve the shopping experience, including a feature added in October 2025 that lets users check a game’s lowest sale price over the last 30 days. But for many players, better discovery tools, fairer pricing, and more user-friendly features aren’t enough on their own. A replacement for PlayStation Stars—or even a smarter credit system that rewards purchases and engagement—could go a long way toward rebuilding goodwill and encouraging repeat spending.

For now, Wallet Credits remains a question mark. But its sudden appearance on the PS Store is exactly the kind of breadcrumb that gets the PlayStation community talking—and it may be the clearest signal yet that Sony is getting ready to rethink how it rewards its most dedicated players.
