Apple has officially released iOS 18 today, September 17, 2024, bringing a slew of exciting features to a wide array of iPhones. While the update excludes a few older models, it promises to make iPhones more personal and efficient than ever before. However, some anticipated artificial intelligence (AI) features won’t be available until next month.
iOS 18 has transitioned from the release candidate phase to a stable update, making it accessible globally on supported devices. Notably, this version marks the first time the iPhone X, which introduced the iconic flat screen design and inspired recent camera updates in the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, won’t be receiving the latest iOS iteration. Nevertheless, the update is still compatible with the iPhone XS Max, XS, XR, and the second-generation iPhone SE. Even the budget-friendly refurbished SE 2020, starting at only $123 on Amazon, can handle iOS 18.
Owners of the iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, and the newest iPhone 15 models can also upgrade to iOS 18. Despite the delay of the Apple Intelligence features until October 2024, users can enjoy a variety of other enhancements. These include new homescreen widgets, app-tinting options, smart categorization in Mail and Photos, expanded text formatting in Messages, and a new Parts & Service History section in the General > About menu.
For now, iOS 18 users can dive into these non-AI upgrades while eagerly awaiting further innovative features scheduled for rollout next month. With Apple’s commitment to continuous improvement, iOS 18 is set to make daily tasks smoother and more intuitive, keeping your iPhone experience fresh and engaging.
