Inventive Feature Allows Users to Customize ChatGPT’s Personality Traits

OpenAI is unveiling an exciting way for users to tailor their experiences with ChatGPT, its highly popular AI-driven chatbot. For some savvy users, new options have appeared in the chatbot’s interface, allowing for a more personalized interaction.

Instead of the old custom instructions menu, users can now input personal details such as a preferred name or nickname, occupation, and specific interests that ChatGPT should be aware of. Additionally, users can define traits they desire the chatbot to have, including but not limited to “Chatty,” “Encouraging,” or “Gen Z.” This adds a fresh layer of customization designed to improve the way ChatGPT communicates with its users.

This revamped menu invites users to “Introduce yourself to get better, more personalized responses,” enhancing the interaction experience. However, not everyone can see these changes currently, as some users report that the new features have mysteriously disappeared, possibly launched before the intended release.

The redesign appears to be more of a visual upgrade rather than a core functionality change. It still utilizes prompt engineering, a technique where ChatGPT is guided by user-provided prompts to produce results that align with the user’s specified preferences.

OpenAI remains committed to ensuring these custom instructions comply with their terms of use, maintaining a level of moderation to prevent misuse.

As ChatGPT’s user base expands, OpenAI continues to refine its offerings, having recently introduced features such as real-time web searches and a “Canvas” interface for tasks related to writing and coding. With over 300 million active users each week, these improvements aim to enrich user interaction and maintain ChatGPT’s position as a leading conversational AI.
