Introducing the FiiO KA15: A Retro-Inspired Portable DAC and Headphone Amplifier

FiiO is taking affordable audio gear to a new level with their latest release, the KA15 portable DAC and headphone amplifier. This device is uniquely styled to resemble a retro cassette player, complete with a 0.96-inch IPS LCD screen that mimics a spinning tape, bringing a nostalgic touch to modern audio technology. This design, especially in the sky-blue colorway, mirrors the look of FiiO’s CP13 cassette player and features durable CNC-milled and anodized aluminum construction.

One standout feature is the FiiO Control app, available on Android, which allows for extensive customization, including a 10-band parametric equalizer. For those who prefer desktop use, the equalizer can also be managed via a web interface. Notably, the KA15 boasts a powerful desktop mode with a balanced output of 560 mW per channel, making it suitable for a variety of listening environments.

When it comes to mobile use, FiiO has incorporated intelligent power consumption technology. This ensures that the KA15 minimizes power draw from your phone, achieving up to 93% less power consumption in standby mode compared to its predecessor, the KA5.

The KA15 is designed to handle high-resolution audio, supporting up to 768 kHz/32 bit and DSD256 formats, thanks to its dual Cirrus Logic CS43198 chips and dual op-amps. On the connectivity side, it offers both 3.5 mm single-ended and 4.4 mm balanced outputs. The 3.5 mm output is versatile, supporting in-line controls, microphones, and compatibility with gaming devices like the Nintendo Switch and PS5. Additionally, it functions as an SPDIF coaxial output for connecting to external decoders.

With dimensions of 52 x 25 x 11 mm, the KA15 is compact and travel-friendly. It comes with a stylish leatherette case, complete with cutouts for the controls and screen. The FiiO KA15 is available now on Amazon for $110, in both black and sky-blue variants, combining vintage aesthetics with cutting-edge audio performance.
