Intel has just unveiled its latest Arrow Lake-S Core Ultra 200S CPUs, which brings exciting updates to desktop computing. This new line-up skips hyperthreading technology but compensates with exceptional enhancements in processing capabilities. At the forefront of this series is the flagship Core Ultra 9 285K, boasting an impressive 24-core and 24-thread setup.
One of the most striking features of Arrow Lake-S is Intel’s promise of significant improvements in Instructions Per Cycle (IPC). Thanks to advancements in architecture, the Lion Cove Performance cores now offer a 9% boost over the previous Raptor Cove, while the efficiency-focused Skymont cores leap a remarkable 32% over their predecessors, Gracemont.
Built on Intel’s cutting-edge Foveros 3D packaging technology, Arrow Lake-S incorporates separate tiles for various components such as the SoC, Compute, GPU, and I/O. This design not only optimizes performance but also enhances efficiency in managing workloads.
Additionally, the cache system sees a noteworthy upgrade. Each Lion Cove Performance core now comes with 3 MB of L2 cache, a solid increase from the 2 MB seen in the previous generation. Although the Efficiency core L2 cache and overall CPU L3 cache hold steady at 4 MB and 36 MB, respectively, the enhancements in L2 cache per core mark a significant leap forward in performance potential.
