This leap in technology was showcased through a volumetric display of a digital Xbox controller that could be manipulated within a VR space.

Introducing Copilot+ PCs: The Future of AI Hardware

Entering the hardware domain with generative AI at its core, the Copilot+ PCs will be equipped with dedicated neural processing units (NPUs) to enable AI experiences such as Recall—Microsoft’s innovation to help users effortlessly retrieve previously accessed content on their devices. These PCs prioritize high specifications with a minimum of 16GB of RAM and SSD storage. The initial offerings will feature Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite and Plus chips, boasting impressive battery lives and performance efficiencies. Renowned chipmakers, including Intel and AMD, are slated to contribute to this product line alongside major manufacturers like Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung. The starting price point for these devices is $999, with select models available for pre-order.

Refreshed Surface Pro and Surface Laptop Models

Microsoft also unveiled its latest Surface Pro and Surface Laptop models, emphasizing performance and extended battery life. The redesigned Surface Laptop now offers a 22-hour battery life and speed enhancements, while supporting cutting-edge Wi-Fi 7 connectivity. Simultaneously, the new Surface Pro has been reported to run up to 90% faster than its predecessor. It also introduces new features such as an OLED HDR display, Wi-Fi 7 with optional 5G, and an improved front-facing camera. A detachable keyboard with added strength and haptic feedback completes the package.

Recall: A Digital Memory Assistant

Recall is poised to be a significant addition to Windows 11, acting as a digital memory aide that helps users to easily locate past interactions and content. By utilizing a natural language search capability, Recall will enable users to surf through their PC’s historical data in pursuit of the information they need. Microsoft has assured users that privacy is a priority, meaning the data used by Recall remains on the device and not for AI training purposes.

Windows Gets Smarter with AI-Powered Image Editing and Live Translations

New AI features are coming to Windows, such as Super Resolution for rejuvenating old photos and Cocreator, which assists users with image compositions. Live Captions with translations will provide real-time audio translations in approximately 40 languages across various content sources. Complementing these features, Microsoft Edge is set to offer live video translations on popular platforms, an innovation that will initially support pairs such as Spanish-English and English-German.

Team Copilot and Developer-Focused Innovations

Further extending its Copilot suite, Microsoft introduces Team Copilot for collaborative endeavors within Teams and other platforms, facilitating tasks like meeting management and note-taking. Additionally, Copilot Extensions have been launched in a private preview, allowing developers to extend GitHub Copilot’s functionality.

At the heart of these AI capabilities is the Windows Copilot Runtime, which is a new architectural layer of Windows. It comprises a series of generative AI models enabling offline AI-powered functions. The much-talked-about Snapdragon Dev Kit also debuted, aimed at developers working with ARM-based Copilot+ PCs.

Enhancing Creativity and Productivity with Phi-3 and Educational Partnerships

Phi-3-vision, a new member of the AI model family, has been revealed to carry out visual analysis and reasoning tasks. Also announced was a partnership with Khan Academy to enhance educational tools through AI and provide educators with free access to these state-of-the-art resources.
