Intel has taken decisive action to improve the underwhelming gaming performance of its Arrow Lake-S lineup by addressing five key problem areas. These issues became evident when the Core Ultra 200S failed to surpass the performance of AMD’s Ryzen 9000 CPUs and, in some cases, even lagged behind its own Raptor Lake series. The tech community voiced their concerns, urging Intel to deliver a substantial solution, primarily in the form of a significant BIOS patch.
In a candid update, Intel shared its findings after comparing internal testing results with those in online reviews. The discrepancy was attributed to five main factors affecting performance, four of which have already been resolved:
1. A missing Performance & Power Management package.
2. Intel Application Performance Optimizer previously inactive.
3. Blue screen errors when launching games with Easy Anti-Cheat.
4. Misconfigured performance settings in early BIOS versions.
5. New BIOS performance optimizations.
Intel reassured its Arrow Lake-S consumers that by applying the latest BIOS updates and running Windows 11 on the “26100.2314” version, they can enjoy enhanced performance. The company plans to release additional BIOS files by January, coinciding with CES 2025, during which Intel will provide further insights into the improvements through a “complete performance digest.”
While four of the five issues have been addressed, the final challenge requires a new firmware, currently undergoing validation, with expectations for an imminent release. Intel will further update the media at CES 2025 with “Field Update 2,” potentially resolving all Arrow Lake-S performance concerns. However, Intel does caution that results may vary depending on host environments, but significant enhancements are anticipated.
While the full scope of these improvements is yet to be tested, Intel is hopeful that the implemented solutions will be effective. Enthusiasts may recall Robert Hallock hinting at these updates, promising positive changes. The tech giant is optimistic that this marks a turning point for the Arrow Lake-S lineup, leading to a brighter gaming future.
