Intel’s Core Ultra 7 265K CPU is making waves with its leaked benchmarks, showcasing impressive performance against AMD’s Ryzen 9 9900X. This “Arrow Lake” processor, despite its lower thread count, is proving to be a formidable competitor in multi-threaded benchmarks.
Recently, the Intel Core Ultra 7 265K has been put through its paces in various tests, including CPU-z, AIDA64, V-Ray, and Geekbench. In the latest Geekbench 6 benchmark, the CPU delivered slightly better performance compared to earlier results. This is expected as we inch closer to its official launch, with final optimizations and BIOS patches being applied to the silicon.
The Core Ultra 7 265KF is set to be the second-fastest CPU in Intel’s Core Ultra 200K Desktop lineup. It boasts 20 cores and 20 threads, with a base clock speed of 3.9 GHz and boost clocks reaching up to 5.50 GHz. Additionally, it carries 33 MB of L3 cache and has a 125W (PL1) TDP. Reports suggest that users will be able to manually set the chip to operate in 177W (Default PL2) and 250W (Performance PL2) modes.
In the latest benchmark, conducted on an MSI PRO Z890-P WiFi motherboard using balanced power plans, the CPU operated at its peak boost clock speed of 5.5 GHz. The system featured 32 GB of DDR5 memory, though specific clock rates and timings were not disclosed. The Intel Core Ultra 7 265K scored 3186 points in single-core and 19,799 points in multi-core tests. Although the single-core score was slightly below a previous entry that exceeded 3200 points, the multi-core performance saw a notable improvement, allowing it to surpass the Ryzen 9 9900X, a 12-core, 24-thread chip.
The AMD Ryzen 9 9700X, despite its strong single-core performance, appears to be no match for the multi-threading capabilities of Intel’s Core Ultra 7 265K. The Ryzen 9 9700X is expected to compete more directly with Intel’s Core Ultra 5 245K. In gaming, AMD might hold an edge, but Intel seems to have secured a lead in multi-threading performance.
What’s particularly remarkable is that the Core Ultra 7 265K sits close in performance to the Core i9-13900K, a 32-threaded powerhouse. This proximity in performance is promising for Intel’s upcoming lineup.
