Intel Core Ultra 7 258V Outperforms AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme in Gaming Benchmark

Intel’s latest Lunar Lake lineup, featuring the innovative Xe2 LPG iGPU, is making waves in the tech community. The standout among these integrated GPUs is the Arc 140V, which the company boldly claims to be the “world’s best built-in GPU.” Although these cutting-edge laptops have yet to hit the retail market, keen-eyed enthusiasts like X user @GawroskiT have managed to get their hands on an early system powered by the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V processor.

Eager to test its prowess, @GawroskiT put the Arc 140V through its paces on the demanding game, Ashes of the Singularity. The results were then compared with those of AMD’s Radeon 780M, found in the Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor.

According to the shared screenshots, the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V demonstrated a clear advantage. The Lunar Lake processor achieved an average framerate of 37.0 and an impressive average CPU framerate of 66.4. In contrast, the Ryzen Z1 Extreme managed to hit 36.8 and 48.4 respectively. The performance gap widened further when examining specific batches in the benchmark tests.

For instance, in the “Normal Batch” phase of the benchmark, the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V achieved a CPU framerate of 80.5 with an average framerate of 41.6. The Ryzen Z1 Extreme, on the other hand, managed 48.8 and 43.3, respectively. While the “Medium Batch” results also favored the Arc 140V, the “Heavy Batch” posed more of a challenge, where the Lunar Lake APU struggled somewhat.

It’s important to note that the test conditions differed slightly. The Intel-equipped laptop boasted 16 GB of RAM, whereas the Ryzen was tested with 12 GB. This discrepancy is crucial since integrated GPU performance can significantly benefit from additional system memory. Thus, had both systems been tested with equal RAM, the performance difference might not have been as pronounced.

Nevertheless, Intel has set high expectations, claiming the Arc 140V would outperform even the Radeon 890M, an advanced RDNA 3.5 iGPU from the Strix Point series. While these initial benchmarks are promising, it’s important to remember that one benchmark alone can’t definitively crown a winner.
