Insta360’s Next Trick Turns Your Videos Into Immersive 3D Worlds

Insta360 Spatial Capture turns 360 videos into explorable 3D scenes

Insta360 is preparing to add a powerful new creative tool to its camera ecosystem with the launch of Spatial Capture, a software feature designed to turn ordinary 360-degree video clips into interactive 3D environments.

The feature is scheduled to roll out in the United States on September 28 and will be available inside the Insta360 app through a dedicated tab. It will support the Insta360 X6, X5, and X4 Air, giving existing camera owners a new way to create immersive content without buying extra hardware.

Spatial Capture uses 3D Gaussian Splatting, an advanced imaging technique that can transform standard 360-degree footage into a digital scene viewers can move through. Instead of simply watching a flat video, users will be able to explore a captured space from different angles, making the experience feel closer to walking inside a virtual environment.

One of the biggest advantages of the feature is how simple the capture process appears to be. Traditional 3D scanning often requires users to slowly move around a room, object, or location to record every angle. With a 360-degree camera, much of that work is already handled because the device records in every direction at once.

To create a scene, users only need to record up to two minutes of normal 360-degree video and upload it through the Insta360 app. From there, the footage is processed in the cloud. The rendering process is expected to take around one to two hours, and users can close the app while the 3D scene is being generated. Once processing is complete, the app will send a notification.

After the 3D environment is ready, creators can explore it using touchscreen controls, a virtual joystick, or their phone’s built-in gyroscope. Insta360 will also let users create custom camera paths through the scene, making it possible to turn the 3D capture into a polished video. Finished results can be exported as a standard video or shared as an interactive web experience that can open in a browser.

The new feature could be especially useful for real estate tours, travel content, event coverage, interior design previews, and location scouting. A property walkthrough, for example, could become a more immersive 3D tour without requiring a dedicated 3D scanner. Travel creators could also turn scenic locations into digital spaces that audiences can explore more freely than with a normal video.

Insta360 is offering Spatial Capture as a free software update for supported camera owners. The service will include up to four free 3D scene generations per month, making it accessible for casual users while still offering meaningful value to creators and professionals.

By bringing 3D scene creation directly into its mobile app, Insta360 is positioning Spatial Capture as a practical tool for the growing demand for immersive video, virtual tours, and interactive digital content. For owners of the X6, X5, and X4 Air, the update could make 360-degree footage far more flexible and useful than before.
