Samsung’s latest innovation, the 9100 PRO SSD, marks a significant leap in storage technology with the adoption of the PCI-E 5.0 standard. Packed with impressive capabilities, this new series is tailored for those who demand high-speed data processing and storage efficiency.
The 9100 PRO SSD series offers a range of capacities to suit various needs, from 1 TB to a whopping 8 TB, with prices starting at $199. This new line-up focuses on delivering unmatched sequential read and write speeds that nearly double those of its predecessor, the 990 PRO. Specifically, the 9100 PRO boasts speeds of up to 14,800 MB/s for reading and 13,400 MB/s for writing.
The secret behind this remarkable performance is Samsung’s V NAND TLC technology, now in its eighth generation. It enhances I/O speeds, providing a 1.2 times increase compared to the previous generation. According to Jim Kiczek, Vice President of Memory Product Marketing at Samsung Electronics America, this innovation is designed to meet the evolving demands of both AI-driven creators and gamers, ensuring they can push boundaries without being hindered by storage limitations.
Unveiled at the recent GTC conference, the 9100 PRO is geared towards high-performance systems. Its outstanding sequential speeds are complemented by swift random read/write speeds, achieving 2,200K and 2,600K IOPS respectively. This advancement surpasses the capabilities of the 990 PRO and is expected to enhance real-world applications and gaming experiences, especially for PCI-E 5.0 compatible motherboards.
Samsung’s pioneering 5nm controller powers the 9100 PRO series. This innovation allows for more transistors within the SSD, boosting performance and energy efficiency by 49% over previous models. Buyers can opt for versions with or without a heatsink, the latter costing slightly more and promising better thermal management and longevity.
Currently, the 9100 PRO SSD is available in 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB capacities, with the 8 TB variant set to launch in 2025. Interested buyers can find these models available through Samsung’s official channels.
