Hypershell X Ultra Debuts: Trail-Ready Exoskeleton with More Muscle and a 30 km Range

Hypershell just turned up the volume on wearable mobility. The Shanghai-based startup behind the CES Innovation Award–winning X Carbon “outdoor powersuit” is launching a new flagship, the Hypershell X Ultra. True to the “Ultra” name, this model leans into rugged performance, smarter assistance, and longer adventure range.

The headline upgrade is power. The X Ultra’s motor delivers up to 1000 W peak output, up from 800 W in earlier versions. That extra oomph translates into stronger assist for walking, running, and cycling, especially on inclines or loose terrain where every watt counts.

Range gets a major boost too. Despite using the same 5000 mAh “anti-cold” battery pack, Hypershell claims nearly double the walking distance per charge: up to 30 km in Eco mode, compared with 17.5 km on previous models. Each battery weighs about 400 g, and the company includes two in the box, making it easy to swap and keep moving on longer treks.

Durability and all-weather reliability are front and center. The X Ultra uses carbon fiber and sintered titanium alloy in thin-walled, hollow structures to stay light without sacrificing strength. It’s built to operate from -20° to 60° C (-4° to 140° F) and carries an IP54 rating to handle dust and rain. At 1.8 kg (around 4 lb), it’s roughly 200 grams lighter than less-premium siblings, keeping weight down while adding capability.

Smarts and control get an upgrade as well. AI-powered gait adaptation learns how you move and adjusts assistance on the fly. There are 12 selectable modes tailored to different activities and terrains, including two new ones—Dune and Snow—for better stability and traction on soft surfaces. Cycling and running modes have been refined, and you can now control the device from an Apple Watch for quick adjustments without digging into a phone.

One note on certification: Hypershell highlights SGS verification for the X Ultra. SGS is a respected testing organization, but the certification, as listed, covers fundamentals such as dimensions, weight, input current and voltage, and software version. It does not appear to validate performance claims like range or assist power. On the plus side, Hypershell provides detailed testing conditions for its performance and battery figures in the fine print, offering more transparency than many brands.

The Hypershell X Ultra is priced at $1,999, with orders opening on September 15. Early adopters can apply for a $100 coupon and a 6‑month extended warranty. There’s also a 14‑day return window if you want to try before fully committing. Prefer a lower entry point? The Hypershell X Go and X Pro remain more affordable alternatives and are currently discounted on Amazon.
