Huawei Watch Buds Set for a Long-Awaited Sequel After Three Years

Huawei is bringing back its smartwatch-and-earbuds combo after a long wait. More than three years after the original debuted, the company has confirmed a follow-up called the Huawei Watch Buds 2, and it’s set to launch in China on April 20.

The idea behind products like this is simple: people want fewer gadgets in their pockets, but they still want everyday essentials close at hand. In recent years, manufacturers have experimented with surprising ways to stash earbuds inside other devices, and Huawei’s approach has been one of the most unusual. The Watch Buds series looks like a normal smartwatch at first glance, but it hides a pair of wireless earbuds underneath the watch display, turning the wearable into an all-in-one accessory for quick calls, commuting, or workouts.

Huawei has already teased the Huawei Watch Buds 2 with an official poster, giving an early look at what’s changing. From the image, the overall smartwatch design stays familiar, but the case has been subtly redesigned. There’s also a small visual update to the crown, which now appears to feature a red ring accent. The earbuds themselves still look very similar to the previous generation, and they continue Huawei’s distinctive design choice of having no visible left or right marking. Another recognizable detail returning is the textured button positioned at the 6 o’clock spot on the watch face.

While the first look confirms the refreshed styling, Huawei hasn’t shared any technical specifications yet. That means key details like battery life, sound upgrades, noise cancellation improvements, microphone performance, and software features will remain a mystery until the April 20 announcement.

The Huawei Watch Buds earned attention partly because it eventually launched beyond China, making it accessible to a wider audience. For the Huawei Watch Buds 2, Huawei hasn’t confirmed whether it will get a global release or remain a China-first (or China-only) product. For now, all eyes are on the April 20 event, where the Watch Buds 2 will appear alongside other new Huawei devices, including the Huawei Pura X Max.
