Huawei Unveils Power-Packed Tablet With 2.8K 144Hz OLED Display and 512GB Storage

Huawei MatePad Air launches with 2.8K OLED display, 144Hz refresh rate, and up to 512GB storage

Huawei has officially started selling its latest MatePad Air in China, bringing a sleek tablet with a premium OLED display, strong battery life, and productivity-focused software features. The new model expands the MatePad Air lineup with more memory and storage choices, including a lower-cost Enjoy Edition for buyers who want a more affordable option.

The Huawei MatePad Air is designed to be thin, lightweight, and stylish. It measures just 5.3 mm thick and weighs around 509 grams, making it easy to carry for work, study, or entertainment. Huawei is offering the tablet in several color options, including Sunny Blue, Light Summer Lemon, Sakura Pink, Warm Cloud White, and Smoky Gray.

One of the biggest highlights is the 12-inch OLED display. The panel offers a 2,800 x 1,840 resolution and a refresh rate of up to 144Hz, giving users sharper visuals and smoother scrolling than many standard tablets. The screen also supports the P3 color gamut, has a claimed 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and offers a 92% screen-to-body ratio for a more immersive viewing experience.

Huawei is also selling a Soft Light version of the MatePad Air. While the standard model reaches up to 1,200 nits of brightness, the Soft Light edition can reach up to 2,000 nits and uses an anti-reflective surface to reduce glare. This version is aimed at users who spend long hours reading, writing, drawing, or working on documents.

Inside, the regular MatePad Air and Soft Light models use Huawei’s Kirin T93B chip, while the Enjoy Edition is powered by the Kirin T93C. The tablet is available with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage in China, giving users more flexibility depending on their needs.

The MatePad Air runs HarmonyOS 6.1 and includes several productivity and AI-powered tools. These features support note-taking, transcription, PDF editing, interactive learning, and content creation. Huawei’s M-Pencil Pro also adds an Air Mouse mode, allowing users to control certain tablet functions without directly touching the display.

Battery life is another major selling point. The MatePad Air comes with a 10,100 mAh battery and supports 66W fast charging. Huawei claims the tablet can deliver up to 15.6 hours of local video playback, making it suitable for travel, online classes, streaming, and everyday productivity.

Other key hardware features include six speakers for a richer audio experience, a 50MP rear camera, a 12MP front camera, Wi-Fi 7 support, and NearLink connectivity.

In China, pricing starts at ¥4,499, or around $671, for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage Enjoy Edition. The 12GB RAM and 256GB storage version costs ¥5,299, or around $790. A higher-end 12GB RAM and 512GB storage model is priced at ¥6,299, or around $939.

The Soft Light versions are more expensive, starting at ¥5,899, or around $880, for the 256GB model and rising to ¥6,899, or around $1,029, for the 512GB version.

Huawei is also offering launch promotions in China, including discounts and national subsidy support. With these offers, the MatePad Air can start from an effective ¥4,299, or about $641, while the Enjoy Edition can drop to ¥3,499, or about $522.

The Huawei MatePad Air has also appeared in Europe in selected configurations, but the Chinese market currently gets more storage choices, including the 512GB option. Huawei has not yet confirmed whether the additional Chinese variants will launch in other regions.

With its slim body, vibrant OLED display, 144Hz refresh rate, large battery, and productivity-focused HarmonyOS features, the new Huawei MatePad Air is positioned as a strong option for students, creators, professionals, and entertainment users looking for a premium Android-style tablet experience.
