Huawei Smartwatch Update Unlocks Enhanced eSIM Support and Smarter Heart-Rate Tracking

Huawei is rolling out a fresh global software update for the Watch Ultimate 2, bringing practical improvements for anyone who relies on the smartwatch for connectivity and training.

The update, HarmonyOS 6.0.0.156, is now appearing for users in Europe, where the Watch Ultimate 2 launched in October 2025 with a set of upgrades over the original Watch Ultimate. The new firmware is a sizeable download at around 1.01 GB, but it adds features that many users will notice immediately—especially those using an activated eSIM.

One of the biggest changes is improved eSIM functionality while power-saving mode is enabled. After installing this update, Watch Ultimate 2 owners can make and receive calls through the watch’s eSIM even when using the battery-preserving setting. The same goes for text messaging: sending and receiving SMS via eSIM is now supported in power-saving mode as well. For some eSIM providers, Huawei also enables Voice over LTE (VoLTE) by default, though it cannot be switched on or off manually.

Fitness and performance tracking also get a meaningful boost. With HarmonyOS 6.0.0.156, the Huawei Watch Ultimate 2 can connect to a wider range of external sensors and accessories. Supported devices include heart rate monitors, power meters, speed sensors, and cadence sensors—useful additions for cyclists, runners, and data-focused athletes who want more detailed metrics or prefer dedicated chest straps and bike-mounted sensors.

Huawei also notes general system stability improvements, which should translate into smoother day-to-day performance and fewer hiccups during workouts and regular use.

As with many wearable software releases, the HarmonyOS 6.0.0.156 update is rolling out in phases, so it may not appear for every Watch Ultimate 2 user at the same time. Once it’s available, you can install it through the Huawei Health app or directly on the watch by navigating to Settings, then System & updates, and Software updates.
