HP Revamps Its Go-To Business Laptops with AMD Gorgon Point and Intel Panther Lake Power

HP has refreshed its popular EliteBook business lineup with the new EliteBook 8 G2 series, bringing updated AMD and Intel options designed for modern office workloads, hybrid work, and on-the-go productivity. The latest models replace the previous EliteBook 8 G1 generation and arrive in multiple screen sizes with high-end display choices, flexible memory configurations, and storage options aimed at business buyers who want performance without sacrificing portability.

Two main branches headline the update: the EliteBook 8 G2a for AMD and the EliteBook 8 G2i for Intel. While HP hasn’t fully detailed every processor configuration yet, the AMD-based EliteBook 8 G2a appears to use AMD’s Gorgon Point platform, which is expected to deliver only modest performance and efficiency gains compared to the prior Strix Point generation. On the Intel side, the EliteBook 8 G2i is expected to rely on Panther Lake, with HP referencing Core Ultra 5 and Core Ultra 7 options.

Size choice is a major part of this refresh, especially for the Intel models. HP plans to offer the EliteBook 8 G2a in two sizes: a 14-inch model and a larger 16-inch model. The EliteBook 8 G2i expands that selection with four options: 13-inch, 13-inch convertible, 14-inch, and 16-inch. That gives businesses more flexibility for different roles, whether someone needs a compact travel-friendly laptop, a 2-in-1 for note-taking and presentations, or a larger-screen device for multitasking.

Display configurations also look strong across the range. HP says customers will be able to choose from multiple panels, including IPS and OLED options available at launch. The 14-inch and 16-inch models can be configured up to 2.5K resolution, and HP is also offering 120 Hz variable refresh rate (VRR) options on those sizes. In practical terms, that means buyers can target anything from standard productivity panels to sharper, smoother displays that can make day-to-day work feel more responsive.

Memory and storage flexibility is another key selling point. Depending on the configuration, some models will use soldered LPDDR5X-8533 RAM, while other versions will support user-upgradeable DDR5 memory (either DDR5-5600 or DDR5-6400). HP also notes that configurations will support up to 64 GB of RAM. Storage options are expected to range from 256 GB up to 1 TB, covering common business needs from basic office use to heavier workloads that require more local capacity.

As for availability, HP is targeting an April launch window for the EliteBook 8 G2a and EliteBook 8 G2i. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but with the broad configuration options across processors, displays, memory types, and sizes, expect a range that spans from mainstream business builds to higher-end setups for power users and premium fleets.
