In a move to compete directly with industry giants like Samsung, China’s Honor has announced plans to release its first flip-style foldable phone this year. Up until now, Honor has focused on crafting fold-style devices, but with the impending rollout of a compact flip-style foldable, the company is diving into a new category. The announcement was made during the prestigious Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona.
Honor’s CEO emphasized the company’s optimism about the future of foldable technology and shared some details about their first flip phone, which is edging closer to completion. There have yet to be any concrete specifications released, but there was mention of advanced AI features that are expected to give Honor a strong footing against competitors, particularly in its contest with Samsung’s highly anticipated Galaxy Z Flip 6.
Alongside this innovate foldable device, Honor is also venturing into wearable technology by developing a smart ring, indicating a broader vision for their ecosystem of products.
Honor Eyes International Expansion Beyond the Chinese Market
An ambitious global growth strategy was laid out by Honor, targeting a future where 50% of their sales are projected to come from international markets within three years. These markets are currently led by tech behemoths such as Samsung and Apple. Honor identified Latin America as a key region for its global strategy, with a special focus on Brazil, a market the company describes as significantly crucial to its international efforts.
As reported by credible sources such as Statista, Samsung currently holds a dominant 42% market share in Brazil as of December 2023. Motorola is the second-largest player in the region, followed by Apple. Honor’s goal is to establish a strong presence in the country and by extension, Latin America.
The arrival of Honor’s innovative foldable flip phone in Latin America and Brazil may solidify the company’s position in these markets. Facing off against fierce competitors, Honor has its sights set on claiming a stake from Brazil’s smaller OEMs such as ASUS, Xiaomi, and Realme.
The technology community is eagerly anticipating Honor’s latest innovations, with eyes on how the company’s new product offerings will be received on both a regional and global scale.
