Home Assistant App Update Brings Fresh Features and Smarter Controls

Home Assistant 2026.9.3 for iOS arrives with new sensor controls, Live Activity upgrades, and Apple Watch fixes

Home Assistant has released version 2026.9.3 for iOS, bringing a fresh set of improvements for iPhone and Apple Watch users who rely on the platform to manage their smart home devices. The update is now available through Apple’s App Store and follows the earlier 2026.9.1 release, which introduced enhancements for the Energy widget and added support for sharing Apple Health sleep data.

One of the biggest changes in Home Assistant 2026.9.3 is improved sensor management across servers. Users can now enable sensors at the server level from both iPhone and Apple Watch. This is especially useful for people who connect the Home Assistant app to more than one server, such as separate home, office, or vacation property setups.

When adding a second server, the app now asks users to choose the location and decide what data that server should receive. This gives users more control over privacy, device data, and how information is shared between connected Home Assistant environments.

The update also adds a new option to display a notification’s available actions. This can make alerts more practical, allowing users to quickly interact with smart home notifications without needing to open the full app. Another addition is optional relevance_score support for Live Activities, which can help iOS prioritize and display real-time Home Assistant activity in a more useful way.

Home Assistant 2026.9.3 also reorganizes some device-related sensor information. Sensors such as battery and storage are now found under the Diagnostic menu, making them easier to locate and better grouped with other system-level details.

The onboarding process has been refined as well. The app no longer automatically stores the current Wi-Fi network as the home network during setup. This change should reduce confusion for users setting up Home Assistant away from home or while connected to a temporary network.

Spotlight integration also gets a visual improvement. App Shortcuts in Spotlight now feature unique icons for each action, making it easier to identify and launch specific Home Assistant tasks directly from iOS search.

Several bug fixes are included in this release too. Apple Watch actions that were running late have been addressed, improving responsiveness for wearable-based smart home controls. The update also fixes issues related to iCloud syncing failures, which should make the app more reliable for users who depend on Apple’s cloud services for continuity across devices.

For now, Home Assistant 2026.9.3 is available for iOS users through the App Store. The Android version has not yet received a matching 2026.9.x release and is currently listed at version 2026.8.4. It remains unclear when Android users will get the same round of updates.

Overall, Home Assistant 2026.9.3 is a practical upgrade for iPhone and Apple Watch users, especially those managing multiple servers or relying heavily on sensors, notifications, and Live Activities. With better server-level controls, cleaner diagnostics, improved shortcuts, and important bug fixes, this release helps make the smart home experience smoother and more flexible.
