Hollow Knight: Silksong just turned a long-awaited launch into a runaway success. The indie sequel is riding a wave of glowing word-of-mouth, racking up over 80,000 Very Positive reviews on Steam and, according to a new report from Alinea Analytics, surpassing 6 million copies sold since release.
What makes this surge even more impressive is the timing. September was crowded with blockbuster AAA launches, yet Silksong still muscled into the month’s top five most-downloaded games. Alinea notes that the long build-up to release helped the indie standout cut through the noise, amassing more than 6 million downloads in the final three weeks of the month.
Platform data underscores where players are flocking. Steam leads by a wide margin with about 4 million downloads, making PC the biggest home for Silksong so far. Consoles make up the remainder, and Xbox activity reportedly tripled PlayStation’s, helped by the game’s inclusion on Xbox Game Pass.
The report also offers a snapshot of how other heavy hitters are performing in the same window. Skate continues to climb with more than 13.9 million copies sold, EA FC 26 has cleared 9 million, NBA 2K26 has reached 3.5 million, and Borderlands 4 isn’t far behind with 3.1 million sold.
For Team Cherry, Silksong’s scorching start is a landmark moment: an indie sequel not only competing with, but charting alongside, the biggest franchises of the year. With momentum this strong across PC and consoles, and a deeply engaged Steam community, the game looks set to remain a fixture on sales and download charts for months to come.
