Hexrite, a PS2-Inspired Magical Action-Platformer, Is Coming to PC in 2026
Indie developer Phabula has revealed that Hexrite, a stylish action-platformer inspired by the PlayStation 2 era, is planned for release in late 2026. The game is currently in development for Windows PC via Steam, with console versions expected to arrive shortly after the PC launch.
Hexrite invites players into a colorful fantasy universe filled with magic, strange creatures, witchcraft, ancient rituals, and forbidden spells. Designed with the spirit of sixth-generation console classics in mind, the game blends nostalgic action-platforming with modern gameplay ideas and a vibrant visual style.
In Hexrite, players take on the role of a sorcerer chosen for a dark and mysterious task: reviving an ancient dead deity. Along the way, the journey will lead through haunted cities, floating towers, fiery landscapes, and other magical locations packed with enemies, secrets, and unusual characters.
One of the game’s standout mechanics is its use of magical domes. These powerful spell fields can transform the battlefield in creative ways, giving players new options during combat. You can summon paper constructs, release poisonous clouds, or even turn the ground into a slippery surface covered in bubbles. These abilities appear to be designed not only for combat but also for playful experimentation.
Hexrite also features a wide selection of spells for players to discover, use, and upgrade. Combat is built around fast-paced action, with spells serving as the core of both regular encounters and boss battles. As players progress, they can unlock new magical abilities, improve existing spells, and uncover dangerous forbidden magic to overcome tougher foes.
Exploration is another major part of the experience. Players will travel across imaginative fantasy environments using platforming abilities such as bouncing on jellyfish and gliding across dangerous terrain. The game aims to capture the adventurous feeling of classic 3D platformers while offering a fresh magical twist.
The world of Hexrite is also filled with characters who may ask for help during the journey. Completing these encounters can reward players with useful items, new spells, and other tools that support the sorcerer’s quest.
With its mix of retro-inspired action, spell-based combat, colorful fantasy locations, and whimsical magical systems, Hexrite is shaping up to be an exciting title for fans of classic action-platformers. Players looking for a new fantasy adventure with old-school charm and modern polish can look forward to its planned PC release in late 2026, followed by console versions afterward.
