Halo Campaign Evolved Update Brings Fresh Visual Options and Smoother Gameplay

Halo: Campaign Evolved Gets Major August Update With Visual Toggles, Weapon Fixes, and Free Armor Skin

Halo Studios has rolled out the largest post-launch update so far for Halo: Campaign Evolved, bringing a strong mix of visual improvements, gameplay fixes, performance upgrades, and a free cosmetic reward for players. The August 17 update follows the previous July patch and focuses heavily on community feedback, especially around image clarity, weapon balance, and progression issues in the new prequel campaign content.

One of the biggest additions is more control over visual effects. Players can now disable chromatic aberration and film grain through the video settings menu. These two post-processing effects can give games a more cinematic look, but many players prefer a cleaner and sharper image, especially during fast-paced combat. By adding separate toggles for each effect, Halo Studios is giving players more freedom to fine-tune the game’s presentation to their own preference.

PC players also get a new “None” option under the Upscaling Technique setting. This allows the game to run without upscaling or anti-aliasing for those who prefer native rendering, particularly on high-end systems capable of delivering strong image quality without extra reconstruction techniques.

Frame Generation has also been improved during cinematics. The game will now automatically turn off Frame Generation during pre-rendered cutscenes and reactivate it once gameplay resumes. This should help reduce visual glitches and create a smoother transition between cutscenes and active play.

The update also fixes several gameplay issues involving Sgt. Johnson in the opening Boarding Action mission from the Operation: Meteorite prequel campaign. Some players had encountered bugs that could halt progress, but the latest patch addresses those problems to make the mission flow more reliably.

Weapon balance is another major focus of the update. Halo Studios discovered that the Assault Rifle was not behaving consistently across platforms. On Xbox and PC, the weapon had been firing more slowly than intended due to a rounding issue. At the same time, its accuracy was staying tighter than designed, creating an unintended difference in feel and performance.

With this patch, the Assault Rifle now matches its intended rate of fire and handling across all supported platforms, bringing it in line with the PlayStation 5 version. This change should make combat feel more consistent regardless of where players are playing.

Covenant Jackals have also received a combat adjustment. These shield-carrying enemies should now stagger more reliably when hit in vulnerable spots such as the hands or feet. This makes encounters feel more responsive and should reward accurate shooting during close and mid-range battles.

Players should note that installing the August 17 update will reset any active mid-mission save data. However, unlocked missions and rally points will remain available, so overall campaign progress will not be lost.

Beyond the gameplay and visual changes, the update adds a new in-game option to begin an account-unlinking request. PlayStation 5 players can also expect general stability improvements and frame rate enhancements, helping the game run more smoothly.

To celebrate the update, Halo Studios is giving players a free armor skin. Anyone who signs in after August 17 will automatically receive the new “Recompilation” armor skin, featuring an electric blue design. If the reward does not appear automatically, players will have an alternate redemption option through the official Halo account system.

Overall, this Halo: Campaign Evolved update is a meaningful step forward for the game. With improved visual customization, better performance, fixed mission progression, more consistent weapon behavior, and a free cosmetic bonus, the August patch gives both new and returning players a good reason to jump back into the campaign.
