GTA Online May Have Quietly Revealed a Hidden GTA 6 Feature

GTA 6 Rumor Suggests a Deeper Vehicle Theft System Could Be Coming

A strange detail spotted in GTA Online has sparked fresh speculation that GTA 6 may introduce a much more advanced vehicle theft system than anything seen in GTA 5. The discovery involves a Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN, which could hint at a new mechanic tied to stolen cars, police tracking, and criminal activity in Rockstar’s next open-world game.

The rumor began when a GTA Online player noticed an unusual description while customizing the Coquette D10 in the mansion vehicle workshop. The car had recently been available as a claimable vehicle through the Chop Shop content, but one part of its customization menu displayed text that did not match the usual descriptions found in GTA Online.

Instead of the standard wording used for custom sunstrips, the Coquette D10 showed a very specific message: “The Vehicle Identification Number is a unique code used to identify individual vehicles. This has already been removed from the vehicle.”

That line immediately caught attention because VINs are not currently a meaningful mechanic in GTA 5 or GTA Online. Vehicles in the current game can be stolen, modified, stored, sold, or destroyed, but they are not tracked through a detailed identification system like real-world cars. Because of that, many fans believe the text may have been accidentally carried over from GTA 6 development.

The theory is especially interesting because the Coquette D10 has appeared in GTA 6 promotional footage. If Rockstar has been moving assets between GTA 6 and GTA Online, it is possible that a developer unintentionally left behind text connected to a feature from the upcoming game.

Players have already tested the issue further. According to the original discovery, the same message did not appear on the D10 Pursuit or the Tigon, even though they were part of the same update. Buying a brand-new Coquette D10 also did not reproduce the message. That makes the discovery feel more like a specific leftover fragment rather than a normal GTA Online feature.

If the VIN description is connected to GTA 6, it could suggest a major upgrade to how vehicle crime works. Instead of simply stealing a car and changing its paint or license plate, players may need to remove or alter identifying details before the vehicle is considered safe to use. A stolen car could potentially be marked as “hot” until its VIN is removed, creating a more realistic and strategic approach to car theft.

This would fit with earlier leaked details suggesting that GTA 6 may feature a more advanced police and witness system. Past information pointed to NPCs being able to report details such as a character’s appearance, vehicle color, and license plate. A VIN mechanic would naturally expand that system, allowing law enforcement to track not just what a car looks like, but the specific identity of the vehicle itself.

Such a feature could make police chases and criminal missions feel far more dynamic. Players may have to think carefully before using stolen cars repeatedly, returning to safehouses, or driving through populated areas. It could also add more depth to chop shops, garages, vehicle customization, and getaway planning.

Rockstar has not commented on the discovery, and for now, it remains only a rumor. Still, the wording is unusually specific, and the timing has made fans pay close attention. With GTA 6 expected to deliver a larger and more detailed open world, a VIN-based vehicle system would be exactly the kind of immersive detail players expect from Rockstar.

Whether this was a simple mistake, unused GTA Online text, or an accidental glimpse at a GTA 6 feature, the discovery has added even more excitement around the game. If the rumor proves accurate, stealing cars in GTA 6 may be more complex, more dangerous, and far more rewarding than ever before.
