GTA 6 Returns to the Spotlight in New PlayStation Trailer After Pre-Order Lull

GTA 6 PS5 marketing heats up again in new PlayStation trailer

Sony appears to be putting Grand Theft Auto 6 back in the spotlight as anticipation builds for one of the biggest game launches in years. A new PlayStation video tied to the “It Happens on PS5” campaign features multiple GTA 6 moments, combining familiar footage from earlier Rockstar trailers with newly added audio and presentation tweaks.

The renewed focus comes after PlayStation previously promoted GTA 6 with a “Plays Best on PS5” campaign around the time pre-orders began in late June. Since then, Sony’s public promotion of the game has been relatively quiet, making this latest appearance notable for fans watching every update connected to the GTA 6 PS5 release.

In the new PlayStation promo, Grand Theft Auto 6 appears during a fast-paced scene featuring boats and jet skis racing near a sunny beach setting clearly inspired by Vice City. The sequence uses live-action performers who have not appeared in earlier GTA 6 marketing, giving the clip a fresh feel even though much of the game footage itself is familiar.

One of the most recognizable moments arrives when Jason jumps into a getaway car driven by Lucia, a scene taken from Rockstar’s second GTA 6 trailer. Later in the video, Jason is shown riding a motorcycle while a seaplane flies low behind him. This footage is also reused, but PlayStation presents it in a new way by placing it on a billboard-style display resembling real-world city advertising.

Near the end of the promo, another scene from the second GTA 6 trailer returns, showing Jason closing a car trunk while Lucia stands nearby. This time, the clip includes a new sound effect, adding a small but noticeable change for fans who have analyzed previous trailers frame by frame.

While the video does not reveal new GTA 6 gameplay, it suggests that Sony may be preparing to ramp up its marketing partnership with Rockstar as the game’s launch window gets closer. The PlayStation Blog also references GTA 6 as one of the most exciting upcoming adventures for PS5, placing it alongside major first-party titles such as Marvel’s Wolverine and God of War Laufey.

Many fans are still hoping for a larger gameplay reveal, and attention is now turning toward the expected Netflix Extended Look on August 27. If that event delivers more footage, it could mark the next major wave of GTA 6 promotion ahead of release.

There has also been discussion around Sony’s earlier “Plays Best on PS5” messaging, which appeared to fade from several channels after pre-orders opened. Some fans speculated that online criticism surrounding Sony’s future physical game plans may have played a role. However, it is also possible that the campaign pause was always part of the company’s marketing schedule.

Despite that brief slowdown, expectations remain extremely high. GTA 6 pre-orders are already believed to be performing strongly, and analysts expect another major surge in reservations during the final week before launch. Rumors of a PS5 or PS5 Pro console bundle tied to Grand Theft Auto 6 continue to circulate as well, which could give Sony another major promotional push.

For now, the new “It Happens on PS5” trailer does not bring the new gameplay showcase fans are waiting for, but it does make one thing clear: PlayStation is ready to keep GTA 6 at the center of its console marketing. As the GTA 6 PS5 release approaches, Sony and Rockstar’s partnership could become one of the biggest gaming campaigns of the year.
