Google has recently launched an impressive lineup of devices including the anticipated Pixel Buds Pro 2, alongside the likes of their new smartphone series and updated smartwatch. The introduction of these advanced wireless earbuds marks Google’s latest foray into the highly competitive market of audio accessories, aiming to rival other premium offerings.
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 arrive as a significant upgrade over their predecessors with notable improvements in design and functionality. Google has listened to feedback regarding the previous model and introduced a twist-to-adjust stabilizer, an arc-shaped rubber enhancer that allows users to comfortably secure the earpieces in place. These buds promise an even more snug fit thanks to capacitive touch surfaces for convenient controls.
In terms of size, the earbuds are now 27 percent smaller and lighter, with each bud weighing in at 4.7 grams. Audio quality has not been compromised in reducing the size, as Google has fitted them with 11 mm drivers and the newly developed custom Tensor A1 chip. This chip is integral to enhancing audio processing speeds and enabling advanced features such as improved Active Noise Cancellation (ANC).
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 additionally boast Silent Seal 2.0 technology, extending their noise cancellation capabilities to block out more varieties of outside noise, such as city traffic. Users can also enjoy seamless interaction between the ANC and the new Conversation Detection feature, which momentarily deactivates noise cancellation when speaking to someone.
Call quality and user convenience receive a boost thanks to three microphones per earpiece, an IR proximity sensor for automatic play/pause functionality, and updated noise reduction algorithms for clearer communication in diverse environments.
Battery performance has been optimized to deliver up to 8 hours of listening time per bud, with the carrying case providing an overall 30 hours of usage. The lightning-fast charging capabilities ensure users get 3 hours of playtime from just 15 minutes of charging in the case. The A1 chip once again proves to be a standout, enabling advanced audio features such as multipath processing to ensure the ANC consistently performs even in dynamic conditions.
Connectivity sees a leap forward with the integration of Bluetooth 5.4, which supports LE Audio and Super Wideband, delivering superior wireless audio quality and reliability. Furthermore, the earbuds are IP54 rated, indicating enhanced sweat and water resistance over the prior IPX4 rating, suitable for more robust activity.
For those worried about misplacing their earbuds, Google’s Find My Device feature provides peace of mind. Additionally, users can access the novel Gemini Live feature by simply prompting, “Hey Google, let’s talk live.”
The Pixel Buds Pro 2, available in an array of colors—Hazel, Porcelain, Peony, and Wintergreen—align with the aesthetics of the new Pixel smartphone series. Consumers can start their pre-orders for these advanced earbuds, with availability anticipated in the near future.
Google’s latest offering of Pixel Buds Pro 2 looks to establish itself as a strong contender in the premium earbuds market, setting new standards in sound quality, comfort, and innovativeness for a price point of $229.
