GIGABYTE Expands DDR5 Compatibility With CXMT Memory Support for AMD and Intel Motherboards

GIGABYTE has officially added support for CXMT DDR5 memory modules across a wide range of its motherboards, giving PC builders more flexibility at a time when DDR5 memory supply remains under pressure.

The update applies to GIGABYTE’s AMD AM5 motherboard lineup, including 600-series and 800-series boards, as well as Intel 700-series and 800-series motherboards. With this move, GIGABYTE joins other major motherboard brands that are broadening compatibility for DDR5 modules based on chips from ChangXin Memory Technology, better known as CXMT.

CXMT has become an increasingly important name in the memory market as global DRAM demand continues to climb. A major factor behind the current supply crunch is the rapid growth of AI servers, which are consuming a large share of available DRAM production. As a result, PC memory prices have risen, and system builders are looking for more available and affordable DDR5 options.

For AMD users, GIGABYTE is enabling CXMT DDR5 support through its latest BIOS updates based on AMD AGESA 1.3.0.1c firmware. This update covers AM5 600-series and 800-series motherboards and adds compatibility with DDR5 modules using both 16 Gb and 24 Gb CXMT memory chips.

One of the most notable improvements is memory speed support. According to GIGABYTE, compatible AM5 motherboards can now reach DDR5 speeds of up to 8200 MT/s with supported CXMT-based memory kits. That gives enthusiasts and gamers more room to tune their systems for higher performance, especially on newer AMD Ryzen platforms where memory speed can play a key role in overall responsiveness.

Intel users will also benefit from the expanded compatibility. GIGABYTE says its Intel 700-series and 800-series motherboards already support CXMT-based DDR5 memory modules through the current BIOS, meaning users do not need an additional update to enable basic compatibility.

This is an important development for the broader PC hardware market. Until recently, most DDR5 memory modules relied heavily on chips from a small group of established DRAM suppliers. By adding support for CXMT-based modules, GIGABYTE is helping expand the number of viable memory options available to consumers, system integrators, and DIY PC builders.

For anyone planning a new gaming PC, workstation, or general-purpose desktop, wider DDR5 compatibility could make it easier to find memory kits at better prices. While premium high-speed kits will likely remain popular among enthusiasts, increased support for additional DRAM suppliers may help stabilize availability over time.

GIGABYTE says the latest BIOS for AMD AM5 motherboards is now available through its official support channels, while Intel 700-series and 800-series motherboard owners can use CXMT-based DDR5 memory with the existing BIOS.

The DDR5 market has seen tight supply and higher pricing in recent months, so support for CXMT memory arrives at the right time. If more motherboard makers and memory brands continue adopting CXMT chips, buyers may see improved stock levels and more competitive pricing in the months ahead.
