Gears of War: E-Day PS5 Rumors Shut Down as Xbox Confirms Exclusive Launch
Gears of War: E-Day has once again become the center of platform speculation after an unexpected PS5 logo appeared during a recent Xbox Podcast video. The logo was briefly shown alongside the game’s listed platforms, leading many viewers to believe that a PlayStation 5 version may have been planned or was still in development.
The moment quickly spread across the gaming community, especially because it lined up with earlier rumors suggesting that Gears of War: E-Day may have once been considered for a wider multiplatform release. Those rumors were fueled further by a previous European rating that listed the game for PlayStation 5, along with claims that a PS5 edition had been in an advanced state before Microsoft reportedly shifted its release plans.
However, Xbox has now made the situation clear. Gears of War: E-Day is not coming to PlayStation 5.
The upcoming prequel is currently confirmed only for Xbox Series X|S and PC, where it will be available through Steam and the Microsoft Store. As expected for a major first-party Xbox release, Gears of War: E-Day will also launch on Game Pass on day one.
The game is scheduled to release on October 6, 2026.
Gears of War: E-Day takes players back fourteen years before the events of the original Gears of War, focusing on the terrifying first appearance of the Locust Horde. The story follows younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as they face the beginning of one of the franchise’s most devastating conflicts.
Unlike a direct sequel, E-Day is designed to explore the moment that changed the Gears universe forever. The setting gives the developers room to deliver a darker and more intense experience, with a stronger survival-horror tone than recent entries in the series.
Built using Unreal Engine 5, Gears of War: E-Day aims to bring a major visual upgrade to the franchise, with more detailed environments, improved lighting, and a heavier atmosphere. The game is also expected to feature modernized gameplay systems, updated multiplayer, and a reworked Horde mode, giving longtime fans familiar action while refreshing key parts of the experience.
For now, despite the brief appearance of the PS5 logo, Gears of War: E-Day remains an Xbox and PC exclusive. Unless Microsoft announces a change in the future, players should expect the highly anticipated prequel to arrive only on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass when it launches in 2026.
