Garmin Unveils New Updates for Fenix 7 and Fenix 7 Pro, Promises Resolution for Connect IQ Crashes

Garmin has launched a new stable update for its Fenix 7, Fenix 7 Pro, and Tactix 7 smartwatches, aiming to enhance user experience by addressing several lingering issues. This update, named System Software 19.38, comes shortly after Garmin’s December 2024 Feature Drop and carries with it the promise of improved functionality.

The update promises to tackle half a dozen bugs, with a highlight on fixing a translation issue where workout names remained untranslated in certain languages. Key fixes also include correcting mismatches between the device’s workout schedule and Garmin Connect, addressing incorrect weekly totals when altering the “First Day of Week” setting, ensuring pan/zoom icons correctly appear on maps, tackling potential errors in sleep mode reactivation after tracking ends, and resolving issues that could cause the device to shut down when saving or discarding an activity.

Despite these significant improvements, the update has not come without its challenges. System Software 19.38, although publicly beta tested, is reported to contain a crucial bug impacting the Connect IQ service, leading to potential application crashes. Acknowledging this, Garmin has already initiated testing a newer update, Beta Version 19.40, which includes a fix for this issue.

For users eager to maintain a seamless experience, patience may be key, as the Beta Version 19.40 is anticipated to soon stabilize and be released as System Software 19.40 in the coming days. This forthcoming update should effectively resolve any persisting problems, solidifying the smartwatch’s performance and reliability.

Keep an eye out for further updates as Garmin continues to refine and enhance the capabilities of its smartwatches, catering to the dynamic needs of its users.
