Garmin Unveils Extensive Update Enhancing Mid-Range Smartwatches with Numerous Features

Garmin has rolled out an exciting new update for its mid-range Forerunner smartwatches. This latest release, Software Version 24.12, introduces a series of improvements for the Forerunner 165, 255, 265, 955, and 965 models, enhancing user experience with a host of fixes and optimizations.

After the significant changes brought by May’s Software Version 23.20, this update, though smaller in scope, still packs a punch with its focus on stability and functionality. A key enhancement across all models is the improved on-device recovery options for when PIN unlock attempts are exhausted. Additionally, the update resolves a potential crash issue on the watch face and fixes bugs pertaining to event goals that wouldn’t update after edits.

The Forerunner 165, 265, and 965 models see specific enhancements like correcting missing breathing variations data and addressing issues with activity charts for extended sessions. Meanwhile, the Forerunner 255 and 965 benefit from fixes for misaligned data on analog watch faces and missing passcode prompts.

For the high-end Forerunner 955 and 965 models, Garmin has tackled problems including altimeter recalibration during Back Country Ski modes, improved map loading efficiency, and issues with the Dynamic Round-trip Routing function. Golf AutoShot issues have also been addressed, along with resolving unresponsive menu keys.

Currently, about 20% of eligible devices are set to receive notification of the update, ensuring a gradual rollout to enhance user experience across models. With these updates, Garmin continues to strengthen its commitment to quality and performance in its smartwatch lineup.
