Garmin Beta Update 23.185 Brings Key Bug Fixes to Fenix 8, Enduro 3, Quatix 8, and Fenix E
Garmin is rolling out a fresh beta software update for several of its premium smartwatches, focusing on improved stability, smoother performance, and fixes for a number of frustrating bugs. The new beta firmware, version 23.185, is now available for select devices in the Garmin Beta Program.
The update is aimed at the Garmin Fenix 8 AMOLED, Fenix 8 Solar, Enduro 3, Quatix 8, and Fenix E. While Garmin’s changelog refers to the release as version 23.18, the actual beta build appears as 23.185, which includes a three-digit suffix after the main version number.
This release does not introduce major new features. Instead, Garmin is concentrating on polishing the experience for users who rely on these smartwatches for workouts, outdoor adventures, diving, music playback, and everyday health tracking.
One of the most important improvements in this beta update is a fix for unexpected crashes. Some users previously reported that their smartwatch could restart while saving an activity, playing music during a workout, or shortly after beginning an automatically detected dive. Garmin says these crash-related issues have now been addressed, which should make activity tracking more reliable.
The update also improves audio behavior. A bug that caused audio playback to switch to the watch’s built-in speaker after connected headphones were turned off has been fixed. This should create a more predictable listening experience, especially for users who stream music or listen to audio prompts during training sessions.
Voice announcements have received attention as well. Garmin Fenix 8 models can now properly announce the time and date aloud. Another fix ensures that LiveTrack spectator messages are read completely instead of being cut off, which could be especially useful during races, long-distance activities, or group events where real-time updates matter.
As with other Garmin beta releases, this firmware is only available to users enrolled in the Garmin Beta Program. It is also worth noting that ECG recording and analysis are temporarily disabled while running beta software. This is a standard limitation of Garmin beta firmware and not a specific fault with version 23.185.
For users who prioritize reliability over early access, waiting for the stable public release may be the better option. However, for Garmin Beta Program participants, version 23.185 appears to be a practical update that targets real-world issues and improves the overall smartwatch experience across several high-end Garmin models.
