Garmin Rolls Out Security-Focused Update for Its Flagship Smartwatches

Garmin releases System Software 22.43 for Fenix 8, Enduro 3, and related smartwatches

Garmin is rolling out a new stable software update for several of its latest premium smartwatches, including the Fenix 8 series, Fenix 8 Pro, Fenix E, Enduro 3, and other closely related models. The new release arrives as System Software 22.43 and is now reaching eligible devices over the air.

The timing is interesting because Garmin recently pushed Beta Version 23.25 to testers. That beta update was part of the ongoing 23.xx development cycle, but it reportedly still carried a number of bugs despite being one of the later beta builds. Rather than moving stable users forward to a 23.xx release, Garmin has returned to the 22.xx software branch with this latest public update.

System Software 22.43 follows the earlier 22.41 build and appears to be a smaller maintenance release rather than a major feature-packed upgrade. Garmin has not shared a long changelog this time, only stating that the update includes general security improvements. That means users should not expect major changes to workout tracking, maps, battery features, sports profiles, or the smartwatch interface with this particular rollout.

Even so, security-focused updates are still important, especially for flagship GPS smartwatches that handle health data, location tracking, payments, notifications, and connected app features. For owners of the Garmin Fenix 8, Fenix 8 Pro, Fenix E, and Enduro 3, installing System Software 22.43 should help keep the device protected and up to date while Garmin continues working on its next larger software release.

The update is currently being distributed in stages. Garmin is said to have made System Software 22.43 available to around 20% of eligible watches so far, which means many users may not see the update notification immediately. This gradual rollout approach allows Garmin to monitor for unexpected issues before sending the software to a wider audience.

The Tactix 8 does not appear to be included in the first wave at the moment. However, based on Garmin’s usual release pattern, a similar update is expected to reach that model soon if no major problems are discovered during the current rollout.

If you own one of the supported Garmin smartwatches and do not want to wait for the automatic over-the-air notification, you can manually check for the update through the watch settings. Availability may still vary depending on region, model, and rollout status.

For now, System Software 22.43 looks like a stability and security maintenance update rather than the long-awaited jump to the 23.xx software branch. Garmin users waiting for bigger changes will likely need to keep an eye on the ongoing beta cycle, while stable software users can install this release for the latest security improvements.
