Garmin Rolls Out Fresh Upgrade for Premium Smartwatches With Key System Enhancements

Garmin Fenix 8 Beta 24.14 update brings key fixes for crashes, navigation, music controls, and activity tracking

Garmin has released another software update for its latest generation of premium smartwatches, with Beta Version 24.14 now rolling out to users enrolled in the Garmin Beta Program. The update is available for the Garmin Fenix 8 series, including the Fenix 8 Pro, as well as related high-end models such as the Enduro 3 and Tactix 8.

This new beta build follows shortly after Beta Version 24.13, which introduced a much larger set of changes compared with the previous stable System Software 23.40 release. While Beta 24.14 is a smaller update, it focuses on important refinements that should make daily use smoother and more reliable, especially for users who rely on navigation, activity tracking, meditation modes, music controls, and sport-specific data pages.

The latest Garmin smartwatch update includes ten listed changes. Most of them are bug fixes, with several addressing problems that could cause the device to crash or reboot in certain situations. For athletes, outdoor users, and anyone using a Garmin watch during workouts or navigation, these stability improvements could be particularly welcome.

One of the notable fixes targets an issue where the watch could crash while using navigation or routing to a point of interest during an activity. Garmin has also resolved a problem that could cause the device to reboot when saving an activity. Another crash-related fix applies to a situation after resetting the watch to default settings and selecting the “Learn the basics of your watch?” option.

Garmin has also made a small interface change by disabling the “change search area” icon when using prefecture search. While not a major feature addition, it should help clean up the search experience for users in regions where this function is supported.

Several activity and display-related issues have also been corrected. The update fixes a problem where an extra swim length could be added after stopping an activity, which should improve tracking accuracy for swimmers. It also resolves an issue where the background color could not be set on the snowboarding data page.

For users who customize their watch faces, Garmin has addressed a bug that caused a watch face data field to appear cropped when the Czech language was selected. Meditation users should also see an improvement, as the update fixes a blue full-screen display that could appear when the screen dimmed during “Free” Meditation Type activities.

Music and sound controls receive attention as well. Beta Version 24.14 fixes an issue where the song title and playback duration could disappear from the music controls page. It also corrects a problem where timer completion tones would not play even when tones were enabled.

Garmin has not yet confirmed when the 24.xx software branch will move from beta testing to a stable public release. For now, Beta Version 24.14 is available as a free download for compatible devices enrolled in the beta program.
