Garmin Rolls Out New Beta Updates for Edge Cycling Computers With Bug Fixes and Stability Improvements
Garmin has started releasing fresh beta software updates for several Edge cycling computers, bringing fixes and performance improvements to both newer and older models in the lineup. The latest updates are available globally through Garmin’s Beta Program and cover more than half a dozen Edge devices, including the Edge MTB, Edge 1050, Edge 540, Edge 840, and Edge 1040.
The update arrives shortly after Garmin expanded its Edge cycling computer family with newer models, including the Edge Explore 3, Edge Explore 3 Plus, and Edge 1060. While those newer devices grabbed attention recently, Garmin is now focusing on improving the experience for riders who already own existing Edge units.
For Edge 540, Edge 840, and Edge 1040 users, Garmin is rolling out Public Beta 31.68. According to the company’s release notes, this version fixes an issue where certain Connect IQ apps could disable light network functionality. This should be a useful correction for cyclists who rely on connected lights and app-based features during rides.
Garmin has also advised users of these models to select “Upload RAM Dump” if they continue seeing a “Collecting diagnostics” notification. This step may help Garmin gather the necessary data to resolve lingering software issues before the update moves beyond beta testing.
Meanwhile, the Edge MTB, Edge 550, Edge 850, and Edge 1050 are receiving Public Beta 33.15. This update restores or improves BaseCamp support, which may be important for riders who use Garmin’s route planning and mapping tools. Garmin also says the update improves overall device stability, though it has not listed specific areas where users should expect changes.
In addition to the BaseCamp fix and stability improvements, Public Beta 33.15 includes various minor bug fixes. While these smaller updates may not sound dramatic, they can make a noticeable difference in day-to-day use, especially for cyclists who depend on their Edge devices for navigation, training data, route tracking, and connected accessories.
At the moment, both updates are only available through Garmin’s Beta Program. Enrollment is free, but users should remember that beta software may still contain bugs or unexpected behavior. Riders who prefer the most reliable experience may want to wait until Garmin releases these updates through the stable software channel.
Garmin has not confirmed when Public Beta 31.68 or Public Beta 33.15 will become available as regular public updates. However, the rollout shows that the company continues to support a wide range of Edge cycling computers, including older models as well as its latest GPS bike computers.
For cyclists using compatible Garmin Edge devices, these updates could bring a smoother and more dependable ride-tracking experience, especially for those who rely on connected lights, mapping tools, and advanced cycling features.
