Garmin is continuing to test new software for several of its rugged smartwatch models, rolling out another beta update for the Instinct E, Instinct 3, Instinct Crossover AMOLED, and related variants. The latest release is Beta Version 14.12, arriving not long after Garmin introduced Beta Version 14.09 less than two weeks ago.
When Beta 14.09 first appeared, Garmin said it addressed only two lingering issues, suggesting the company was still early in the v14.xx development cycle. For now, Garmin appears to be keeping these watches on System Software 13.29 as the stable option, while the beta track continues to evolve separately.
What’s notable about Beta Version 14.12 is what it doesn’t include. Rather than introducing new features or listing additional fixes, Garmin points to the exact same changelog used for Beta 14.09. In other words, people installing 14.12 shouldn’t expect visible upgrades, performance enhancements, or new tools—at least not based on the official notes.
At the same time, feedback from users on Garmin’s public bug reporting channel suggests that several problems remain unresolved in 14.12. Among the most frequently mentioned issues, some users report that Strength Training can still crash when they try to start a session after updating. In addition, some Instinct 3 Solar owners claim the backlight may refuse to time out, potentially causing frustration and raising concerns about battery drain during everyday use.
For Instinct owners considering the update, these reports are an important reminder of what beta software usually means: early access to upcoming changes, but with the possibility of stability issues. Until Garmin expands the changelog with clear new fixes—or rolls improvements into the stable release—many users may prefer to stay on the current stable firmware, especially if they rely on features like Strength Training workouts or consistent display behavior.
