Samsung’s Future Foldables Could Get a Major Display Upgrade With a Less Visible Crease
Samsung may be preparing one of its biggest foldable display improvements yet. The company is reportedly developing a new glass technology designed to make the crease on foldable phones less noticeable, especially after repeated opening and closing.
The new approach is called Center-etched Thin Glass, or CTG. Unlike the current Ultra-thin Glass used across many foldable smartphones, CTG does not make the entire panel equally thin. Instead, Samsung Display is said to be focusing on thinning only the center area of the screen, where the fold and crease naturally form.
This targeted design could help the display bend more smoothly while keeping the rest of the panel stronger and flatter. In theory, that means future Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip models could offer a cleaner, more seamless viewing experience with a crease that is harder to see and feel.
The technology is still believed to be in development, and Samsung is reportedly working through key challenges, including how to keep the screen looking completely flat when unfolded. If the company solves these issues in time, CTG could appear in next-generation foldable phones expected in 2027, potentially including models from the Galaxy Z Fold 9 series.
However, the new display technology may not arrive on every foldable model at once. Reports suggest Samsung could introduce CTG on select devices first, meaning one model in the lineup may receive the upgrade while another continues using existing foldable glass technology. More details are expected to become clearer later this year.
Samsung has already made major progress with its recent foldable phones. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 introduced a slimmer and more refined design, while later models continued improving portability, durability, and overall user experience. These upgrades helped boost consumer interest and contributed to strong pre-order performance for the company’s foldable lineup.
A less visible crease remains one of the most requested improvements among foldable phone buyers. While modern foldables have become thinner, lighter, and more powerful, the crease is still one of the most obvious reminders that the screen bends. If Samsung’s CTG technology delivers as expected, it could make future Galaxy foldables feel much closer to traditional premium smartphones while keeping the advantage of a large folding display.
For users who want a foldable phone with a cleaner screen, improved durability, and a more polished design, Samsung’s upcoming display innovation could be a major step forward. The Galaxy Z Fold 9 and future foldable devices may mark the beginning of a new phase for foldable smartphones, where the crease becomes far less distracting and the overall experience feels more refined.
