Samsung has been working on a slimmer version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 for a while. Initially referred to as the ‘Slim’ version, it is now called the ‘Special Edition,’ likely due to it being only 1.5mm thinner than the standard Fold 6 model. Although the device’s thickness of 10.6mm isn’t groundbreaking, it aims to take on the competition in the market for bigger and thinner displays.
The real highlight of the Special Edition lies in its camera upgrades. Though the reduced thickness alone isn’t revolutionary, the new version is said to feature an upgraded in-display camera. More significantly, it introduces a major enhancement to the rear camera, something users have long been anticipating.
Leaked images shared on social media by Evan Blass suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition might finally include a 200MP primary camera. Earlier, there were speculations that such an upgrade would be part of a rumored Ultra version of the Fold 6. While details about the telephoto and ultrawide cameras have yet to be confirmed, it’s possible that these will see improvements as well.
Samsung has been making incremental advancements with its foldable models, but many users have been asking for greater innovation, especially as the competition continues to push boundaries in terms of technology and design. Up until now, every generation of Samsung’s foldable phones has lagged behind the flagship Galaxy S series in terms of camera quality, with the latest Galaxy Z Fold 6 featuring a 50MP main camera.
Given the high price points of these AI-enhanced foldables, many users have expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of substantial sensor upgrades. Samsung has previously cited the challenges posed by the foldable design as reasons for these limitations. However, with the introduction of the Z Fold 6 Special Edition, users are hopeful for the camera improvements they’ve been waiting for. If this model delivers on its promises, it might set a new standard for Samsung’s next-generation foldables.
