Over the last couple of months, the cost of DRAM has surged dramatically—often jumping 3X to 4X in many regions. That spike is making PC upgrades and new builds far more expensive than they were earlier in the year, with DDR5 memory kits in some cases costing shockingly close to what people expect to pay for other premium parts.
In a recent statement addressing the question of why its DRAM prices have risen so sharply since late 2025, G.Skill points to two forces hitting the entire memory industry at once: unprecedented demand from the AI sector and severe global supply constraints. In simple terms, more companies are buying huge amounts of memory for AI servers and high-performance computing, while the supply chain can’t keep up at the same pace. When availability tightens, component prices rise—especially at the chip supplier level—and that increase flows through to finished products like consumer DDR5 kits.
G.Skill also says its own procurement and sourcing costs have climbed substantially as a direct result of these conditions. The company notes that its pricing reflects broader, industry-wide increases passed down from IC suppliers, and that prices can change without notice depending on market shifts.
