Intel is set to invigorate its Raptor Lake series with the introduction of three new CPU models: the Core 5 220H, Core 7 250H, and Core 7 250U. These additions will stand out by avoiding the “Ultra” designation attributed to the newer Lunar and Arrow Lake SKUs.
Recent insider chatter hinted that Intel would bolster its Core Ultra 200 lineup with a set of non-Ultra models, essentially giving Raptor Lake a third wave of updates. This speculation has been confirmed, with CrossMark’s database listing the Core 5 220H, Core 7 250H, and Core 7 250U. These CPUs are intended to compete with AMD’s refreshed Ryzen 300 series, known as Hawk Point.
Intel’s refreshed lineup is shaping up as follows:
– Core Ultra 200V (Lunar Lake)
– Core Ultra 200H/HX/U (Arrow Lake for laptops)
– Core 200H/U (Raptor Lake refresh)
The Core 7 250H boasts impressive specs with its 14-core (consisting of 6 performance cores and 8 efficiency cores) and 20 threads, scoring 1,856 points in CrossMark’s benchmark—marginally outpacing the Raptor Lake’s Core i7-13800H. Meanwhile, the Core 5 220H, featuring 12 cores (4 performance and 8 efficiency) and 16 threads, scores 1,604 points, closely aligning with the improved Core i5-13600H. Lastly, the Core 7 250U, equipped with 10 cores (2 performance and 8 efficiency), achieves a respectable 1,371 points.
The official launch timing for these new Core (non-Ultra) 200 SKUs is still under wraps, though we might see them debut at CES 2025. However, whether they’ll be presented alongside the Arrow Lake laptop parts or separately is still uncertain. This rollout might cause some confusion among consumers, leading them to believe they are purchasing the latest Arrow Lake series rather than a refreshed Raptor Lake model.
With these strategic updates, Intel aims to strengthen its position in the CPU market and offer a compelling alternative to AMD’s latest offerings. Keep an eye out for more news on these intriguing developments as the CES 2025 event approaches.
