Ford CEO Enthralled by Xiaomi SU7’s Driving Experience in Recent Interview

In an unexpected turn of events, Ford Motor Company’s CEO, Jim Farley, has openly expressed admiration for a competitor’s creation, and it’s causing quite a buzz. Farley recently revealed on a podcast that he’s been test-driving the Xiaomi SU7, an electric vehicle (EV) from the Chinese tech titan Xiaomi, for the past six months and finds it hard to part ways with the car.

During his engaging narrative, Farley emphasized the importance of understanding what competitors bring to the table. He shared, “We transported one from Shanghai to Chicago, and I’ve been behind the wheel ever since. It’s tough to let go.” This statement sheds light on how Ford aims to stay competitive and innovative in the ever-advancing EV market.

Xiaomi, a brand more commonly associated with its state-of-the-art smartphones and a myriad of consumer gadgets ranging from televisions to washing machines, has entered the EV arena with the SU7. The vehicle comes in three appealing variants: the standard SU7, the SU7 Pro, and the SU7 Max, offering an exciting range from budget-friendly to performance-packed options. Prices start at approximately $30,500, showcasing Xiaomi’s prowess in creating economical yet feature-rich vehicles.

The SU7 Max variant stands out with an impressive 101 kWh battery, while the standard and Pro models come equipped with 73.6 and 94.3 kWh batteries, respectively. The Max model also boasts an all-wheel-drive system powered by 295 horsepower, promising a thrilling driving experience. Moreover, Xiaomi has tentatively announced plans to roll out models with even larger 132 and 150 kWh batteries, although details remain under wraps.

Given Farley’s recent hands-on experience with such an innovative competitor, it will be intriguing to see how Ford strategizes its future in the EV landscape. This saga underscores the dynamic interplay between global automotive manufacturers and how the competition is driving everyone toward better, more innovative solutions.
