Fresh leaked schematics allegedly sourced from a case manufacturer are giving the clearest picture yet of Apple’s first foldable iPhone, often referred to in rumors as the iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold. Coming shortly after hands-on clips of dummy units, these technical drawings focus on one big question potential buyers keep asking: will Apple’s foldable be uncomfortably thick?
According to the new leak, the device could be much slimmer than earlier chatter suggested. Previous rumors claimed Apple’s first foldable iPhone would come in at around 11mm when folded, which would make it feel chunky compared to today’s premium foldables. The latest drawings, however, point to a folded thickness of about 9.23mm. If that number holds up, it would put Apple’s foldable in a far more competitive range and could make it feel closer in hand to a modern “Pro” iPhone than many expected.
The schematics also outline a larger, tablet-like footprint when opened. The dimensions shown are roughly 167.59mm by 120.59mm, reinforcing the idea that Apple is aiming for a “mini tablet” experience when unfolded. The drawings suggest an unfolded thickness of around 4.7mm, which sounds impressively thin on paper and aligns with the broader industry push toward lighter, more pocketable foldables.
That slim chassis may come with a trade-off: a very prominent camera area. The leak describes a substantial camera plateau, with the camera bump pushing maximum thickness to approximately 13.7mm. The raised module is expected to house two 48MP cameras, most likely a main lens and an ultra-wide. In other words, Apple may be prioritizing camera performance even if it means a noticeably thicker section on the back.
One of the more eye-catching details in the drawings is the front-facing camera approach. The leak points to an “Android-style” punch-hole selfie camera on the inner display, positioned toward the left corner when the device is unfolded. If accurate, it would mark a clear design shift for Apple’s foldable era. The same information also suggests Face ID may not be included, with Touch ID instead placed on the side button—an approach that would make sense for a foldable where internal space is at a premium and where multiple screen configurations can complicate facial scanning hardware.
Interestingly, the punch-hole location could also create an unusual ergonomics quirk. With the selfie camera sitting in the left corner of the unfolded screen, using the device in portrait orientation could place the buttons in a less intuitive spot relative to how a small tablet is typically held. It’s the kind of detail that could look fine in a schematic but feel strange—or surprisingly natural—once the product is real.
Color options appear straightforward, at least based on these drawings. The foldable iPhone is rumored to launch in two colors: black and white, which lines up with earlier expectations of a more restrained, premium-focused palette for a first-generation product.
As always with pre-launch phone leaks, it’s smart to treat all of this as unconfirmed. Parts can change late in development, and case-manufacturer information can reflect prototypes or placeholder measurements designed to get accessory production moving early.
Still, if these iPhone Fold / iPhone Ultra schematics are accurate, they hint at a foldable that’s thinner than feared, built around a large inner display, equipped with a major camera bump, and designed with a punch-hole inner selfie camera plus side-mounted Touch ID. The big remaining question is timing. The foldable iPhone’s reveal is rumored for September, alongside expected Pro models, while more mainstream or lower-cost iPhone options are rumored to arrive later, potentially in spring 2027.
