FiiO Unveils Ultra-Slim JM21 (2026): A Hi-Res DAP/DAC with Balanced Headphone Power

Fiio is expanding its lineup of portable hi-fi gear with the JM21 2026, a slim digital audio player and USB DAC designed for listeners who want high-resolution playback without carrying a bulky device. With a body that’s just 13 mm thick, it’s built to slip easily into a pocket or bag while still offering the connectivity and power audio enthusiasts expect.

At the heart of the Fiio JM21 2026 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processor, a familiar chip from mid-range smartphones that helps keep the interface responsive and app performance smooth. Fiio pairs it with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, and it runs on a customized Android 13 setup geared toward music playback. If you keep a large offline library, the microSD card slot is a major plus, supporting cards up to 2 TB.

Where the JM21 2026 aims to stand out is audio performance. Fiio uses dual Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC chips with independent left and right circuitry to deliver balanced headphone output alongside standard wired connections. The company claims an S/N ratio above 130 dB and THD+N under 0.0006%, specs that target clean output, detail, and low distortion for serious listening sessions.

For format support, the JM21 2026 is built around high-resolution audio. It handles files up to 32-bit/384 kHz and supports DSD512, covering many popular lossless and hi-res libraries. It also includes Hi-Res Audio certification and supports advanced Bluetooth codecs for wireless listening, including LDAC, LHDC, and aptX HD, making it a flexible option whether you prefer wired headphones or high-quality Bluetooth headphones.

Power and control are also key features. A 3,100 mAh battery is paired with an output rated up to 700 mW, intended to better handle more demanding headphones. Users also get a three-way gain setting and an adjustable volume curve, which can help match different headphone impedances and sensitivity levels—useful if you switch between easy-to-drive in-ear monitors and higher-end over-ear headphones.

Beyond being a standalone music player, the Fiio JM21 2026 can also function as a high-resolution USB DAC for a laptop, giving it extra value for people who want improved audio quality at a desk and on the move.

The Fiio JM21 2026 will be offered in black or blue and is scheduled for release on January 23, 2026. Pricing is set at 39,600 yen (around $250). It measures 120.7 × 68 × 13 mm and weighs 156 g, positioning it as a compact, travel-friendly hi-res player with both balanced output and modern wireless audio support.
